Uganda National Oil Electrical Engineer Jobs in Uganda
The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Ltd was established under the Petroleum
(Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion,
Transmission and Midstream storage) Act, both of 2013 and incorporated under the
Companies’ Act, 2012. It is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of
Uganda.
Design electrical systems including installation of power generation and distribution systems, understanding and evaluating electrical equipment performance while working closely with operations and
maintenance.
Responsibilities
Lead Electrical Engineering efforts for multiple assigned projects in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.
Identify Front-End Engineering & Design (FEED) and implementation deliverables
necessary for the electrical scope of the projects.
Perform calculations for equipment sizing, cable sizing, lighting, grounding and heat
tracing.
Review and approve electrical equipment specification sheets from the engineering
contractors prior to procurement of equipment and materials.
Prepare electrical load lists, schematic diagrams, single line diagrams, cable schedules
and MTO using electrical engineering software, such as Smart Plant Electrical.
Review construction work packages to ensure quality deliverables are available for the
Construction group.
Participate in the factory acceptance tests for Electrical equipment.
Review vendor/contractor’s single line drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment
specifications (including transformers, MCC, switchgear, substation equipment); power
plans, conduit plans, cable schedules, system studies and protective relay settings
Participate in the design of medium and low voltage power generation and distribution
systems.
Support the maintenance and operation of plant electrical power generation and
distribution systems
Interface with engineering contractors, refining personnel, electrical vendors,
contractors, engineers and all relevant team members through all project phases;
Prepare and implement inspection and maintenance schedules of the equipment and
electrical installations in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications
Promote the use of alternative energy sources like solar and wind and use of energy
saving techniques.
Interface with UETCL, UEDCL or UMEME, as may be required during project development
and implementation.
Any other duties as may be assigned
Requirements
An honors bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Registration with the Uganda Institute of Professional
Engineers or Engineers
Registration Board (U) or the equivalent is an added advantage.
A minimum 5 (five) years of post-degree electrical engineering experience in detailed
engineering design and or maintenance in the refining, petrochemical, manufacturing
industries or other industry.
Familiar with international codes, standards and recommended practices standards
like ANSI, IEEE, NEC, ISA, NEMA, API, etc as well as area classification techniques as
per NEC.
Good understanding of HSE including the electrical safety codes of practice.
Experience with high, medium and low voltage systems.
Experience with ETAP, Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) or other relevant electrical engineering computer software.
Familiar with Uganda’s electricity generation, transmission and distribution regulations.
Effective oral and written communications and excellent interpersonal skills with the
ability to deal effectively with the design team in the resolution of project related
issues.
Must be self-motivated, results oriented, and be flexible to work well under tight
schedules in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team environment
