Uganda National Bureau of Standards - Principal Surveillance Officer Jobs

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of
Trade Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair trade,
promoting local industries and Consumer protection.

UNBS is looking for highly motivated candidates, result-oriented and qualified professionals with integrity for employment on a three-year renewable contract depending on satisfactory performance to fill the posts below;

Principal Surveillance Officer- Investigation and Warehouse Management

Reporting to the Manager Surveillance, the successful candidate shall be required to
perform the following duties;

Design a framework for coordinating investigative cases arising out of surveillance
activities in line with the Departmental guidelines, manuals and procedures for
products, processes or services

Liaise with the Legal Unit and collect data about court cases so as to handle court
cases expeditiously

Collect and analyse and report trends data regarding services and products on the
market that don’t meet the minimum standards to aid decision making.

Participate in sensitization of stakeholders about their responsibility in relation to
standardization.

Conduct random and purposive follow up field monitoring checks on selected
products and provide feedback to stakeholders for purposes of improved service
delivery.

Develop work plans and budgets for the division in line with departmental policies
and procedures

Provide technical support and guidance to all stakeholders in line with set
standards.

Qualifications

Should possess a Masters’ degree in Science or any other related field from a
recognized University/Institute

Honours Degree in a science field or any other science related qualification from a
recognized University/Institution

Certificate in

Investigations and prosecution

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Standards, Quality Assurance, or quality control,
Standards Development or Laboratory Testing after graduation

Must be computer literate with skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the
Internet applications

Age: Between 30 and 45 years

The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and professionalism,
Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills and needs to be a team player, an
excellent communicator with good oral communication and presentation skills.
