Uganda National Bureau of Standards - Principal Legal Metrologist Jobs

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of
Trade Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair trade,
promoting local industries and Consumer protection.

UNBS is looking for highly motivated candidates, result-oriented and qualified professionals with integrity for employment on a three-year renewable contract depending on satisfactory performance to fill the posts below;

Principal Legal Metrologist- Weights and Measures (1 Position)

Reporting to the Manager Legal Metrology, the successful candidate shall be required to
perform the following duties;

Coordinate, monitor and carry out field surveillance visits to ascertain compliance to
the weights and measurement requirements in line with UNBS standards and
departmental policies and procedures

Develop and design verification guidelines and checklists to ensure that field staff
follow set procedures in conducting verification exercises as per laws established.

Provide technical support to field staff, supervise, monitor and mentor staff in the
Division to ensure that they handle their assignments professionally and follow the
inspectors code of conduct as they execute their roles

Develop and monitor the implementation of the annual, quarterly and monthly
budget, work plans and targets of all activities to be undertaken within the Division

Provide technical support, sensitization and guidance to traders and all
stakeholders in line with verification requirements.

Develop and maintain database and inventory of all seized equipment in line with
UNBS standards

Monitor measurement traceability of working standards in line with departmental
policies and procedures

Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports

Qualifications

Should possess a Masters’ degree in Science or any other

related field from a
recognized University/Institute

Honours degree in physics, engineering and any other related field.

Minimum of 8 years’ experience

Certificate in Investigations and prosecution as an added advantage

Must be computer literate with skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the
Internet applications

Age: Between 30 and 45 years

The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and professionalism,
Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills and needs to be a team player, an
excellent communicator with good oral communication and presentation skills.
