Position: Deputy Director, Postgraduate Studies in charge of Research

(1 Position) Ext AD 08/4/2023

Duty Station: Main Campus – Nkozi

Reports to: Director, Postgraduate Studies, Research and Enterprise

Qualifications:

The candidate must have a PhD with minimum of 3 years teaching experience as Senior Lecturer and 5 Research Publications.

Key Responsibilities:

Providing oversight of academic progress for admitted students (Masters’ and Doctoral students).

Providing the necessary linkages between the faculties/schools/institutes offering graduate programmes and the directorate for quality control.

Collaborating and working closely with Deans of other Faculties to develop and oversee policies and procedures for graduate students’ education, retention, and degree completion.

Performing other related duties as assigned by the relevant authority, including grant application for research projects, academic supervision and community outreach.

Position: Editor (1 Position) Ext AD 09/4/2023

Duty Station: Main Campus – Nkozi

Reporting to: Deputy Director of Postgraduate Studies in charge of Research

Purpose of the job:

To undertake manuscript editing, reviewing and final proofs for publications — in print and online — for the UMU press” as well as “ensuring visibility and wider accessibility of published works with UMU press.

Qualifications:

Should be in possession of a PhD or a good relevant Master’s Degree obtained from a recognised University and registration for a PhD.

At least 3 years of service as Assistant Research Fellow.

At least four scholarly publications or a scholarly monograph

Scholarly editorial experience of at least two years.

Key Responsibilities

S/he will be responsible for all University academic publications, journals, monographs and books.

Manage University linkages with other publishing institutions.

Ensure marketing

of all academic publications in print and online.

Developing and updating UMU Press policies

Member of the Research and Publications Committee of the Research Directorate.

Position: Administrator (1 Position) Ext AD 10/4/2023

Duty Station: Main Campus – Nkozi

Reporting to: Editor

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Records and Archives Management or any other related degree.

Any experience as an Administrator/ documentation officer or Curator in a busy institution will be an added advantage.

S/he should have a satisfactory record of service to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Collecting artefacts or / and works of art relevant to the purpose of the UMU museum.

Cataloguing acquisitions and keeping records.

Curating the Museum.

Conducting artefact background research and documenting it.

Receiving and guiding visitors through the museum.

Displaying objects or collections in a way that makes them accessible and engaging to the general public.

Writing materials and articles for the website.

Fundraising for expansion of the museum.

Organising exhibitions

Collaborating with strategic partners and building vital network for visibility and growth.

Managing the storage of documents and publications of the UMU Press
