Uganda Investment Authority Project Quantity Surveyor Jobs
Purpose of the job The Project Quantity Surveyor shall ensure that quantities and costs at the design phase of all project components are as per industrial standards & best practices and also ensure that these are implemented at the construction phase.
Key areas of focus
Quantities and costs at design phase as per industrial standards and best practices;
Quantities and costs at construction phase as per designs;
Inspections and acceptance of project deliverables.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Project Quantity Surveyor shall be expected to carry out the following duties and responsibilities;
Advise the Project Engineer on cost-related matters on the project;
Ensure that UIA’s interests are protected in the technical studies, designs and construction phases of all project infrastructure;
In consultation with the Project Engineer, review all project requirements that will be required in the construction and equipment of all project deliverables including but not limited to quantities (BoQs), measurements, costs, labor and services from the Owner’s Engineer.
Inspect all project deliverables and ensure that construction and installation is as per approved project requirements;
In consultation with the Project Engineer, review and advice on all proposed project changes or variations and ensure that all approved project architectural changes or variations are implemented;
Preparation of all periodic monitoring and performance reports as per the project reporting requirements;
Ensure that all project cost-related documentation is maintained.
Any other technical duties that may be assigned.
Outputs
The Project Quantity Surveyor’s measurable outputs shall include;
Approved Project deliverables within cost estimations such as approved project rate analysis for each project deliverable, BoQs;
Project cost related documentation;
Project periodic performance and monitoring reports;
Qualifications
The Project Quantity Surveyor shall possess a minimum of the following;
An honors Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying and construction management.
A master’s degree in quantity surveying, construction management and civil engineering shall be an added
advantage.
A post graduate qualification and or membership to any project management professional body shall be an added advantage.
Professional registration with the Professional Surveyors Board or relevant professional body is a MUST.
Experience
The Project Quantity Surveyor shall possess a minimum of the following;
Must have at least 5+ years’ work experience in supervision and management of projects post registration with the Professional Surveyors Board or relevant professional body.
Proof of experience in working in complex civil works environments, particularly in the field of construction supervision and management.
Proof of experience in the implementation of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
Proof of experience in contract management, project management, research, strategic theme development, procurement, and programming-related work.
Proof of experience in working on large infrastructure projects will be an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
The project Quantity Surveyor should possess;
Ability to work with minimal supervision with strong organizational skills;
Report writing and oral communication skills.
Must be results-oriented, a team player, exhibiting high levels of enthusiasm, tact, diplomacy and integrity.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and professional skills in interacting with investors, government and development partners.
Project management skills.
Attention to detail skills.
Openness to change and ability to manage complexities.
Competencies with MS (Office, Project, and Visio) and other professional software such as Adobe Acrobat Pro are a MUST.
