Uganda Electricity Generation Company Mechanical Technician Jobs in Uganda

Job Summary:

To ensure that the mechanical elements in the power plant run smoothly to generate power by
checking machines and machine components, testing their efficiency and making repairs wherever
necessary and suggest improvement of machines for better performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Brief Description of duties or the responsibilities for the job

Read and interpret technical assembly drawings, schematics etc. required for repair and maintenance.

Participate in the implementation of operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information for improvement of maintenance.

Participate in the Installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical machinery, equipment, systems and processes to meet the requirements of the power plant.

Design and make changes to installations with a view to improving performance or providing a solution to a problem- engineering solutions.

Investigate and analyse equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty in mechanical equipment and operations and come up with recommendations for maintenance crew.

Oversee installation all routine maintenance and repairs at the power plant and make reports to the maintenance engineer for the planning of long outages and overhauls.

Adherence to safety precautions are followed in the place of work.

Provide engineering support by responding to requests for electrical problems.

Comply with codes by adhering to requirements; advising senior management on needed actions.

Maintain supplies inventory by checking electrical mechanicall stock to determine inventory levels; anticipating needed supplies.

Assist mechanical engineers to design mechanical products, analyse performance results, and maintain mechanical equipment.

Maintained work order systems using maintenance management systems

Optimize the performance of mechanical products, machinery, and equipment.

Participate in all Preventive Maintenance activities (PMS) for all electrical/mechanical
machines.

Work with mechanical fitters and his team in all aspects of their work including following the LOTOTO procedure in carrying out maintenance activities.

Education and Professional Requirements:

The minimum education level required to perform this job.

• A Diploma in mechanical engineering, production engineering, manufacturing engineering or similar.

Related Job Experience/Qualification:

The Experience required to perform this job.

A minimum of 3 years working at a power plant, heavy manufacturing Industry, processing plant,
a major repair workshop or similar work places are needed for this position.

Additional Skills:

In addition to the experience and educational requirements listed above

• Familiar with installation practice, testing, commissioning and repair of mechanical equipment
and machinery.

• Excellent knowledge of machines, spare parts, welding, operations and maintenance.

• Excellent observation skills.

• Ability to work under stress and be on call at any time.

• Excellent analysis skills.

• A sound knowledge regarding safety measures.

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

• Good communication and motivation skills.

• Ability to work in a team.

• Must be highly organized, systematic and precise in work
