Job Title: Legal Officer

Accountable to: Principal Legal Officer

Department: Legal

Duty Station: Head Office

Job Purpose:

To provide legal services to the company in accordance with the governing laws. Company rules and regulations by representations in courts, drafting agreements and offering legal briefs to drafting agreements and offering legal briefs to BOD and Management.

To assist in the provision of legal advisory and general legal support services to the business

Principal accountabilities

To carry out legal research

To participate in the development and revision of policies and procedures to prevent illegal unethical or improper conduct the execution of business.

To draft legal correspondences.

To assist in the management of litigation process of the company by:
.

Directing investigations into the gathering of information necessary for resolution of court disputes.

Attending court sessions as company representative

To assist in management of insurance claims

Generally to assist the CS in managing the legal services function.

Technical requirements/experience/qualifications

A Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized university and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

Must be enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court with a valid Practicing Certificate.

Must possess a minimum of 5 (five) years of legal practice and experience in a Law Firm or reputable organization.

Must have knowledge and a firm understanding of legal procedural matters.

Ability to translate legal concepts into an easily understandable format and to communicate them clearly.

Must possess the maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work closely with staff at all levels.

Excellent planning, organization and presentation skills.

A high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently.

Flexible attitude and attention to detail

Excellent written and oral skills
