UCU Bishop Barham University College-Kabale is looking for a dynamic, self-driven and seasoned individual with very good analytical and leadership skills. He/she must be capable of leading the Library team and work as part of the team of Senior Executives of the University under minimum or no supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the Staff in the University library and information services.
  • Receive new books in the library and ensure that they are properly recorded.
  • In charge of the University Library and information services.
  • In charge of the Library Staff and their periodic appraisal.
  • Making budget proposals for the University Library.
  • Making development plans for the Library.
  • Ordering and Purchasing of books and other library material.
  • Supervising the safe custody of books and other Library property.
  • Liaising with heads of departments to secure relevant books for the library (SDI).
  • Teaching library and study skills to Library and Information System courses
  • Membership to University Administrative and Academic Committees e.g. Senate
  • Convening regular meetings for Library Committee and Staff
  • Implementing quality assurance standards for the Library.
  • Supervision of library technical work.
  • Responsible for library software and e-resources and ensuring that users know how to use them.
  • Any other official duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field such as Management of Information Science, Management of Information Systems, Information Studies, Publishing or Information Technology.
  • With a minimum
    of five (5) years work experience one of these as Library Assistant

    OR

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field (such as Management of Information Science, Management of Information Systems, Information Studies, Publishing or Information Technology) & Professional Certification.
  • With a minimum of two (2) years’ post professional qualification work experience in academic library, one of these as Library Assistant.
  • Minimum of accumulated experience of two years in the management of library /information resources
  • Must have good skills in computer literacy and familiarity in Library systems.
  • Evidence of continuing education courses related to library/information management
  • Should possess good leadership skills.
  • Should have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Broad and deep functional or subject matter expertise in Library Management systems
  • Familiarity with Library Management systems.
  • Must be a mature and committed Christian.
