Ubongo reaches millions of families across Africa through accessible technologies like TV, radio and mobile phones.
Our show’s Ubongo Kids and Akili and Me currently air in 31 countries across Africa, in Swahili, English, French, and Kinyarwanda.
We are currently adapting the shows to even more languages including Kikuyu, Luo, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Twi.

We are looking for Radio Adaptation and Distribution Consultants to work with our teams to identify, and build relationships with different community radio stations in Uganda.
This will be part of Ubongo’s contribution to the PlayMatters initiative (in partnership with IRC, Lego Foundation and other partners) to bring playful learning to children affected by the refugee crisis across East Africa.
The consultants will also ensure the quality of adaptation of our radio programs in Uganda for distribution across different radio stations.
Your Responsibilities Will Be:
● Contributing to the program goal of reaching all refugee children in Uganda with Ubongo Edutainment in 5 years.
● Identify and build partnerships with radio stations in refugee camps as well as in the host communities
● Attend all relevant training for the completion of job responsibilities.
● Keep the team up to date with any developments pertaining to distribution of radio content in Ethiopia and Uganda
● Working together with translators to ensure quality translations of Ubongo’s content
● Chipping in wherever else
is needed. We’re a small organization, and we all wear many hats!
You Are a Good Candidate if You Have:
● If you have existing relationships with radio broadcasters in refugee camps across Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania and/or the ability to build relationships with radio broadcasters.
● Great written and oral communication skills in English, Swahili, Arabic and Amharic
● Knowledge of local languages in the consulting areas
● Hands on experience with facilitation and training skills
● Knowledge of and experience in monitoring and evaluation
● The ability to learn quickly and independently about key issues important to Ubongo’s work including, early childhood development and social behaviour change communication.
● Great organisation skills and strong planning abilities.
● The ability to work independently and to think on your feet.
● Ideally have experience working with refugee populations and knowledgeable in areas of conflict and migration.
● Extremely organized and process oriented.
● Ability of willingness to travel to refugee settlements and camps
● A love for kids! They’re why we do what we do. Our kids’ music and videos will become part of your life (and constantly stuck in your head).
● Persistence! We have a big goal and have to get things done with limited resources
