Your role:The Commercial and Vendors Manager (CVM) will be tasked with the foundational and impactful mandate of developing and scaling the “Supply Side'' of Tushop’s business, first in Kenya before expanding to the rest of the continent. Using both design-thinking and data-analytics approaches, as well as existing experience and networks, the CVM will be responsible for driving the company's growth in vendor partners through the development and execution of the commercial strategy.
The CVM will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and farmers, negotiating commercially attractive terms, and co-creating lasting valuable solutions with and for them. The CVM will be a key member of the startup’s senior team.
The ideal candidate has on-the-ground commercial and vendor relationship and solution building experience and appetite, has extensive experience of what it’s like to be a Kenyan supplier (and consumer, especially in the FMC Gand retail verticals), and is looking forward to committing to building something valuable for Kenya (and then Africa).
Key Responsibilities:Develop and execute the vendor strategy for the start up, with a focus on driving profitability, scalability, and growth
Partner with suppliers, vendors, and farmers to negotiate commercially attractive terms and co-create solutions for long-term retention and value
Maintain strong, positive relationships with these partner organizations
Identify and pursue new business opportunities and partnerships to expand the company's reach, access to products, and positive revenue streams
Collaborate with the marketing and product teams to develop and implement marketing and promotion tools for vendors
Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure consistent supply and smooth running of procurement operations
Collaborate with the growth and engineering team to pilot new vendor development
strategies and products while building out the scaling and expansion playbook
Analyze market trends and customer needs to inform the commercial strategy and make data-driven decisions
Lead and manage the commercial team to ensure the successful execution of the vendor strategy
The profile we’re likely to hire would include:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a commercial role, preferably in the e-commerce, retail, or social media space
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and farmers
Proven track record of driving revenue growth and successfully negotiating commercially attractive terms
Ability to analyze market trends and make data-driven decisions maintain strong and existing network of vendors in the grocery, fresh produce, and FMCG space
Experience working in a start up or fast-paced, dynamic environment
