Job Purpose

The Intern will be responsible for supporting and learning from implementing strategies and projects aligned towards achieving the communications pillar of TI-Kenya’s strategic plan.

Specifically, the intern will offer support to the Citizen Demand & Oversight programme, the organizations’ institutional media/communications engagements, events management, and support communication with stakeholders. The intern will also support interventions aligned to the successful implementation of the Media-Tech Hub projects, journalists’ training, grant and mentorship programmes and innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall provide communications support including but not limited to the following duties:

  • Provide support to TI-Kenya institutional media/communications engagements, including event management, publicity, media mobilisation, media monitoring and social media advocacy;

  • Provide logistical and administrative support in preparation of all project activities including advocacy meetings, workshops and public forums, and ensuring production and/or documentation of activity reports, taking photos, recording details for participants and taking minutes for meetings;

  • Assist in the design of projects and work plans to ensure their successful implementation to achieve overall programme objectives and TI-Kenya strategic goals;

  • Support partnership engagements to enhance movement building through mapping out of relevant stakeholders, working with relevant partner coalition and networks to develop collaborative programme strategies;

  • Support multi-media advocacy initiatives including social media engagements, content development for online dissemination;

  • Support in maintaining an active presence on TI-Kenya’s social media presence in line with the organization’s social media policy and guidelines;

  • Support to mobilize journalists, activists, CSOs, and other partners for public forums, events, and other outreach activities;

  • Support in regular media monitoring in order to record and follow up on incidents reported through the organization’s platforms.

    Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
    in Arts, International Relations, Media, PR, Marketing,Communication Studies, Development Studies, or related course from a recognized university;

  • Demonstrable skills and interest in media and communications work;

  • Work experience of atleast 6 months in the communications/media field with demonstrable experience in project implementation.

  • Familiarity with advocacy and communications strategies and tools;

  • Ability to productively interact with different stakeholders and citizens to advance TI Kenya work;

  • Good analytical and organizational skills;
    Good knowledge of TI-Kenya and the environment in which it operates;

  • Demonstrated professional use of social media (Twitter, Facebook among others);

  • Familiarity with basic computer packages and understanding of data entry;

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English and Kiswahili fluently;

  • Ability to work independently and as a team;
