Opportunity SummaryThe Water Trust seeks a dynamic Monitoring and Evaluation professional with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
The Water Trust's data collection and analysis includes historical monitoring water point functionality and quality, periodic large-scale household surveys, monthly reports on progress against key sanitation indicators, and quarterly reporting of financial and administrative data for hundreds of self-help groups.
This position plays a critical role in the data cleaning and analysis process, and in supporting program management with timely, clear reports, and exploring issues that may emerge.
Given our continuous improvement culture, there is an opportunity to also play an active role in writing lessons learned, conference papers, and presenting results to different audiences.
The ideal candidate will not only have strong technical skills, but will be a self-starter, a quick learner, and be very comfortable working with large datasets.

This position is likely to be
based in Kampala (if not, in Masindi), with approximately 25% travel to Masindi and Kiryandongo.
Major Functions and Responsibilities Coordinate the implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems and processes, from survey design to data collection to database management.
Quality control monthly data on sanitation, self-help groups, water point functionality, and water quality, and produce reports on progress against key performance indicators and data quality issues.
Train staff on monitoring and evaluation tools, oversee quality of implementation, and make recommendations for improvements to tools, processes, and systems.
Support data collection, quantitative and qualitative, in the field as needed.
Proactively identify gaps in implementation and contribute to solutions.
Qualifications and Characteristics
Essential
Degree in Social Science / Statistics / Development Studies / Social Work
5 years’ experience in monitoring and evaluation, including both quantitative and qualitative research.
Experience working with WASH and/or environmental health projects on behalf of an international development organization.
Demonstrated expertise in survey development, data management, and report writing.
Strong facilitation skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills (in English).
Proactive and results-oriented.
Comfortable and capable adapting work and priorities to respond to changing situations in order to advance organizational goals and objectives.
Strong computer skills, notably in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Able to both work independently with minimum supervision and as part of a larger team.
Desirable
Experience in hygiene promotion and behavior change communications.
Experience with mWater.
Knowledge of the Masindi and Kiryandongo areas and local languages.
Experience in conducting Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions.
Possesses a driving license and/or valid riding permit and knowledge of road rules.
