Job DescriptionIn September 2019, Pharo School Homosha will be opening its newly completed Grade 9-12 boarding school for female students in the Benishangul-Gumuz region.
Fully funded by the Pharo Foundation, the Pharo School Homosha campus is situated on 3 hectares of land and is made up of eight buildings, (comprising of Administration, Classrooms, Library, Hall, Cafeteria, Dormitory, Store and Service) with a total area of over 6,000 M2.
As a boarding school, Pharo School provides a learning and living environment for students and staff. We invite applications for the positon of Head Cook to oversee the school’s kitchen and dining area
Job descriptionsThe Head Cook will oversee the daily food preparation in the kitchen and oversee the proper serving of food in the dining hall.
The Head Cook will work cooperatively with the Cleaning Supervisor, to ensure that proper cleaning and hygienic standards are fulfilled in the kitchen, dining area and Food storage area.
The Head Cook will work with School Administration to devise a school menu and is also responsible for the timely ordering of all food items. The Head Cook will also deal with any food-related concerns.
Head cook typically do the following:
Check the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met
Supervise and coordinate activities of food preparation workers
Develop recipes and determine how to present the food
Plan menus and ensure uniform serving sizes, quality of meals and minimize food wastage
Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas for cleanliness and functionality
Advise the management to hire, train, and supervise additional food preparation workers
Order and maintain inventory of food and supplies
Monitor sanitation practices and follow kitchen safety standards
Arrange for
equipment purchases and repairs.
Check the quantity and quality of received products.
Responsibilities
To ensure that all menus are correctly calculated to ensure maximum satisfaction.
To ensure that all staffs are constantly trained to effect good portion control and pleasing Presentation of dishes.
To ensure that enough stocks of all materials are being kept and stored under the conditions.
To liaise with management daily (or when needed) regarding special requirements, VIP function etc.
To ensure that all statutory hygiene requirements are diligently followed.
To ensure that attendance registers are daily and that any absenteeism is reported to the managements without delay.
To ensure that maintenance problems are probably reported.
To ensure that all staffs are dressed correctly to satisfy statutory requirements as well as enhancing the image of the establishment.
To assist with regular stock-takes as and when required.
Job Requirements
Requirements
Related College diploma or certificate in Food Preparation with minimum 4 years’ experience, or Degree with 2 years’ experience or Level 3 with 4 years’ experience (COC a must), (Hotel and Tourism management, preferable).
Applicants with experience in food preparation and inspection supervision and work experience from a recognized hotel, will be given priority
Applicants with experience in food preparation and inspection supervision and work experience in a boarding school, or similar working environment, will be given priority
Fluency in written and spoken Amharic
Basic fluency in spoken English
