Job Description

Lutheran World Federation (LWF/WS – Ethiopia) is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia. LWF is currently looking and invites qualified candidates to apply for the following vacant position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that all the sub-components of the project in Bambasi refugee camp and surrounding communities implemented according to LWF policies and donor and government agreements,
  • Delivery program linked to environmental protection activities of LWF’s project “Ensuring self-reliance through the promotion of food security, livelihoods, environmental protection and psychosocial wellbeing for Sudanese refugees hosted in Bambasi and host communities” Specifically carry out technical, administrative and communication tasks associated with the project activity and delivery project,
  • Provide technical support, coordinate, develop and contribute to the environmental protection project activities
  • Provide technical guidance in implementing the project interventions aim to rebuild the environment of the Bambasi refugee camp and the surrounding area/kebele,
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor soil and water conservation activities with the relevant stakeholders- communities and government bodies,
  • Identify capacity gaps and provide technical support to target beneficiaries both refugee and host community,
  • Develop materials for awareness raising and conduct training for the refugee and host communities on soil and water conservation activities
  • Control the nursery activities and raises seedlings and distribute to the beneficiaries as planned.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi annually and annual reports on environmental component of the project,
  • Undertake environmental impact assessment studies for the project,
  • Facilitate effective implementation of the project as per the plan, set action plan(timetable and allocated budget and define roles and responsibilities of relevant actors),
  • Prepare draft concept paper/project proposal related to environmental protection activities,
  • Design appropriate capacity building initiatives for stakeholders to assure that the sub-sector activities are implemented,
  • Undertake community
    mobilization and regular monitoring and evaluation of the project and reporting to the project coordinator,
  • Launch and follow necessary procurements and transfer of equipments and or materials to field projects, under supervision of the project coordinator,
  • Participate in the technical meeting lead by UNHCR and ARRA at camp and Assosa level and report the issues to the project coordinator,
  • Collect and document all the necessary information on project activities for reporting, sharing and learning, and carry out tasks associated with the environmental protection and management activities.
  • Prepare programmatic and financial reports as required,
  • Undertake LWF representation with Government, Partners and officials around the project area,

    Employment Term: A year contract with possibility of extension

    Job Requirements

    Requirements:

  • Masters or Bachelor Degree in Natural Resource Management or in plant Science, Horticulture, Rural Development, Agronomy and other related fields from recognized University/College
  • Minimum of one year relevant work experience for Masters Degree and three years for Bachelor Degree

    Key skills/competencies required:

  • Strong communication skill in English (written and oral)
  • Ability to interact with people
  • Experience in livelihood activities
  • Knowledge in areas of cash based intervention (CBI)
  • Knowledge in Remote Sensing & GIS is highly appreciated.
  • Experience in humanitarian (refugee settings)
  • Knowledge of refugee assistance procedures
  • Knowledge in areas of Back Yard Gardening, Poultry, animal husbandry, Irrigation
  • Application and other agricultural activities
  • Relevant on job training is advantageous.
