Requirements

For appointment to the position of Chairperson of the Financial Centre Tribunal, an applicant must be in possession of the qualifications provided under section 35 & 36 of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Act 25 of 2017.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;

  • Ten (10) years’ experience in adjudicating financial services and regulatory disputes;

  • Membership of a relevant professional body in good standing;

  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

    Experience

  • Have at least ten (10) years’ experiences in adjudicating financial services and regulatory disputes.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    -The chairperson shall discharge the following duties: -

  • Presiding over all proceedings where he
    -she is present in person;

  • Constituting such panels or panels of the Tribunal as may be necessary for the fair and expeditious disposal of the business of the Tribunal;

  • Assigning the business of the Tribunal to the members;

  • Carrying out inquiries into the disputes lodged including
    summoning witnesses, taking evidence and calling for production of records and other documents;

  • Recording proceedings in a clear and accurate manner;

  • Writing and pronouncing awards, judgments, orders, rulings and decrees issued by the Tribunal.

  • Making rules of the tribunal with respect to the filing, hearing and disposal of disputes and other matters before the Tribunal;

  • Providing requisite leadership to ensure the Tribunal attains a high level of competitiveness and ethical standards;

  • Driving the Tribunals vision and mission through the implementation of its Programmes and plans;

  • Undertaking any other duty assigned for the benefit of the Tribunal
