Responsibility / Main ActivitiesMonitor the general condition of the child
Detect and take immediate action for the following medical problems in children and report serious cases to the doctor:
Hypo- or hyperthermia
Tachycardia, arrhythmia
Dyspnea, respiratory distress syndrome
Diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration
Refusal to eat
Severe anemia
Edema
Wounds
Pains
All medical complaints of accompanying persons or children
Take vital signs as often as indicated by the child's condition
Note on the monitoring sheet all the results (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, saturation, diarrhea, vomiting, oedema, etc.)
Monitor and update the rehydration protocol for dehydrated children
Administer treatments
Oral and Injectable Treatments:
Prepare the prescribed medications, respecting the doses indicated
Check the card number and the child's bracelet before administering all medications.
Know the nursing techniques to ensure aseptic care that does not endanger the child's health:
Call the child and make the mother and her child comfortable to receive the treatment. Only take one child at a time to avoid confusion in the distribution of treatments
Administer prepared drugs by crushing the tablets and diluting them with a small amount of water
Make sure the child takes the full dose of medicine. In case of vomiting within 10 to 15 minutes after administration, give the same dose again.
For injections, respect the injection site, the technique and rigorous asepsis
Save the processing run on the processing sheet
Administer and update the right amount of Résomal (or ORS for infants and moderately malnourished) according to the protocol.
Infusions, Transfusions:
Check and readjust (if necessary) the flow rates of infusions and transfusions every 15 minutes
Carry out all monitoring relating to blood transfusions and infusions according to established protocols and immediately report any anomalies
Record the administration of fluids on the child's monitoring sheet
Dressing and external care:
Perform dressings according to the nursing protocol
Place SNGs correctly, ensure SNG care once a day and change of SNG every 3 days
Respect the rules of hygiene and universal precautions during care
Consult children in phase and intensive care
Carry out the consultation of the children of the phase
Every day in phase 1, transition phase and in intensive care
Every day new children or infants and children or infants under supervision in phase 2
Every 2 days other children or infants in phase 2
Find out about the child's condition by reading the last consultations, the treatment, the monitoring sheet and the weight curve
Make a complete history on admission and a history of the last days in phase, accentuated on food
Do a complete head-to-toe clinical examination
Decide what action to take according to the signs and symptoms (laboratory test to do, frequency of monitoring, rehydration to update, treatment to set up, keep or change, call the doctor), respecting the national protocol I force.
Decide whether or not to change the diet according to the national nutritional protocol
Correctly complete the file by checking the boxes of the clinical examination, noting the new diet and describing the pathological state of the child in the observation. Note the action to be taken and the treatment (specifying the dosage, the hours of administration and the duration)
Call the doctor in the event of a pathology beyond nursing skills, in the event of doubt about what to do, in the event of a proposal for an injectable treatment and in the event of a severe worsening of the child's condition.
Do not forget the priorities outside the consultation (emergency, surveillance, etc.)
Monitoring the evolution of the nutritional status of children
Know the criteria for admission to CRENI, the criteria for referral/transfer to CRENAS, the exit criteria and the different types of malnutrition, according to the national nut protocol
Know how to determine the target weight of the child according to the Z score
Check if the weight curves are correctly drawn
Inform the mothers of the evolution of their child and explain to them the course of the care
Attend the morning weighing session, check
the consistency of the results
Decide on the change of diet and the transition from one phase to the next while respecting the nutritional protocol
Supervise the work of nutritional assistants
Supervision of meals and hygiene at the ITFC/IPD concerns all staff
Check that the quantity of milk distributed matches that prescribed for the child according to his or her weight
Check the absorption of the milk and check that the quantity taken is noted on the corresponding food monitoring sheet
Ensure that the mother does not give anything other than the prescribed milk to the child
Check the correct location of the nasogastric tube and ensure that the administration of milk is correctly done
Supervise the taking of the temperature, the temperature curve and decide on the measures to be taken in the event of hyper- and hypothermia
Supervise the administration of rehydration solutions (quantity and administration)
Ensure hygiene in the phases, ICU, Pediatric Ward.
Ensure the availability of drugs and the integrity of equipment
Take care of the equipment (stethoscope, thermometers, scissors, scales, furniture, etc.), ensure its integrity and report any damage to the nurse supervisor or the expatriate CRENI manager, ensure the availability of all equipment
Ensure the storage of equipment and products after use
In the emergency room, check all resuscitation equipment once a day and update anything that is missing (role of the referent)
Inform, participate in the health education of mothers
Simply explain to mothers the care given to children
Reassure the child and the accompanying person during care
Participate in the education of companions on food and hygiene
If necessary, help mothers with care
Avoid bedsores (turn the children every 2 hours)
Written and oral transfer when the team changes
Ensure a good written and oral handover when the team changes
Oral transmission at each change of team, see with the relief nurse each problem child
Written transmission of all specific events that took place during his working day
Always store the equipment and ensure the cleanliness of the place at the end of its service
Management:
Supervise and motivate a team of nurse-aids and hygienists on a daily basis. Oversee the quality of care. Provide staff training (formal and informal), under the supervision of the hierarchical referent
Monitoring, analysis and reporting
Actively participate in the monitoring and reporting of medical activities (correctly complete patient records, forms, statistics, reports) and provide analysis of these statistics
Ensure the next service team receives the correct information
Immediately report to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, particularly the loss/theft/damage to medical facilities or medication
Others:
Any other task assigned by the direct supervisor and consistent with the objective of the position.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Essential recognize Nursing Degree / Diploma
Essential 2 years’ experience in same /Similar position in Medical organization preferably INGO’s
Previous experience as Nurse desirable with ALIMA or other NGO’s is desirable.
