II. About the ProjectThe new honey project is an innovative, nationwide smallholder honey contract-farming scheme in several regions, likely Oromia, SNNP, and Tigray.
The project will support up to 15 honey companies to sustainably source from 11,400 smallholder men and women beekeepers over 1 year and 11 months.
By developing a sustainable system for smallholder honey contract farming in Ethiopia, this project aims to increase the volume of export-quality honey that commercial honey buyers purchase directly from smallholder beekeepers.
The project will sustainably increase smallholder incomes, effectively engaging women in household decision-making, and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and their families.
III. Position DescriptionFarmer Accounts Data Officer is responsible for overseeing the data collection, data cleaning, data analysis and data reporting related to Project.
In particular, s/he will be responsible for overseeing data collection and verification for Farmer Accounts on the Contract Farming Platform (which includes farmer names, contract info farmer biodata, inputs received by beekeepers, credits and delivery volumes…etc.);
S/he will prepare prepopulated training attendance form, distribute to farmer trainers, and recollect attendance data from Honey farm college.
S/he will help relevant project partners to effectively use it, creatively troubleshooting as needed. S/he is responsible for managing implementation of evaluation surveys, including overseeing data collection, ensuring data quality, and analyzing data and report writing;
IV. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee development and maintenance of the Farmer Accounts Platform & other databases
Oversee the data collection and data entry for the Farmer Accounts Database (this includes farmer names, contract info farmer biodata, inputs received by farmer, credits and delivery volumes…etc.)
Oversee the data collection and data entry for the Enterprise Database (membership size, aggregation capacity, capital, credit history, address etc.)
Oversee the data collection and data entry for Honey Farm College
Support tablet base digitalizing of farmer/enterprise accounts and aggregation.
Oversee the data collection and data verification, such as the training attendance databases
Supervise the Field enumerators and review the deliverable materials; Crosscheck data reported by DCs and DCS
Gather, organize and properly file hard copies for all data
Clean, check and synthesize data; Review that all data is complete and presented in the correct formats for analysis.
Support external partners to effectively use the Contract Farming Database Platform; by conducting trainings for external partners and farmer organizations and liaising with external partners using the database platform, troubleshooting as needed.
Assist in the development of new data collection tools and training
Support the MEL Manager to design and prepare forms for effective data collection, such as aggregation forms, and manage the preparation of forms (procurement) and distribution of forms to field locations;
Train staff and Primary Cooperative leaders on the proper use of forms, such as use of the forms in the context of aggregation training;
Test first draft of questionnaires and collect feed back
Provide coaching and feedback on data collection tools and templates; as well as follow up coaching and support
Facilitate/deliver data collection tools and deliver related training; Provide Continuous coaching and feedback on data collection tools and training
Organize trainings for enumerators and supervisors; Organize payments for training to enumerators and supervisors as well as data collection team.
Configure tablets to pull monitoring (training observation, evaluation, aggregation etc.) contents from online system at the same time sync with the system.
Monitor online tablet base training observation, evaluation and aggregation.
Support the design and implementation of Project surveys
Support the design and implementation of evaluation surveys, including developing the work plan and budget for surveys; facilitate and deliver survey related training; Assist in survey development
Responsible for managing implementation of evaluation surveys, including overseeing data collection, ensuring data quality, and analyzing data and report writing;
Assist in adjustments to survey materials; Ensure the translated survey materials are congruent with the original language and check formatting.
Assist in online survey programming
Support survey quality assurance using built in algorithms (SurveyCTO and Google sheets)
Configure tablets and push survey questionnaires to tables.
Testing questionnaires using tablets and provide feedback.
Prepare regular reports in a timely manner;
Respond to data and customized report requests in a timeline manner
Prepare accurate farmer account summaries in advance of aggregation times
Fulfill other duties and responsibilities:
Prepare miscellaneous different tools, materials to support project implementation
Assist in development of a new/existing system to collect data from the field
Supports evidence-based management and decision-making
Implements the project’s Learning Agenda, together with Project Manager and MEL Manager.
Any other duties assigned by the MEL Manager or Project Manager
Monitoring Program implementation Using CommCare System
Designing monitoring tools using CommCare application
Support setting up dashboard as a reporting and monitoring tools from the date collected using CommCare application.
Providing training and ongoing support for front line data collectors
Regularly maintain and report on monitoring activities to relevant stakeholders using CommCare platform and dashboard.
Job Requirements
V. Required Qualifications and Capabilities
A true passion for and commitment to fighting poverty and economically empowering poor smallholder beekeepers/farmers, especially women
Experience working in relevant geographies; Knowledge of, familiarity and experience working with private sector companies in Ethiopia
Practical experience implementing smallholder contract farming projects in Ethiopia
Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Statistics, Social Science and related field with a minimum of 3- 5 years’ experience in managing data
Computer savvy: experience with software programs related to data analysis including a high level of proficiency in Excel.
Experience deploying and using digital tablets for data collection
Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Fluency in Amharic and English; Oral and written communication skills that are clear and concise in both languages
Keen attention to detail and highly organized
Excellent computer skills; business software fluency, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills
Willingness to travel to the field and spend significant time in rural areas with limited infrastructure
