Technical University of Kenya Vice Chancellor Jobs in Kenya



For Appointment to This Position, A Candidate Must:

  • Be a holder of an earned PhD from a reputable university;

  • Be a full professor in a reputable university and in a field of study covered in the programmes of study within the Technical University of Kenya;

  • Have at least ten (10) years of academic and research experience at senior level and possess demonstrated leadership in an academic and/or research institution having served substantively with demonstrable results at least in the position of a Principal of Constituent University College or as Deputy Vice – of a University, or in other similar institutions at comparable levels;

  • Have demonstrable experience in technological education training including Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET);

  • Have excellent understanding of government financial and fiscal policies, strategic planning, Vision 2030, human resource, procurement and asset disposal legal requirements;

  • Have excellent understanding of the current trends in university education and training in Kenya and globally;

  • Demonstrable leadership in planning, developing and implementing academic programs and building strategic institutional linkages;

  • Be registered with, and be an active member of professional associations in their field of competence;

  • Have demonstrable experience in networking, fundraising and resource mobilization in the development of the university;

  • Have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; and

  • Be of the highest ethical standards, integrity and professionalism and comply with the requirements of Chapter Six
    of the Constitution.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The duties and responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor shall be as provided for in the
    Universities Act, 2012; The Technical University of Kenya Charter, 2013; and the University Statutes; but shall at any rate include the following: -

  • Be the chief executive officer of the university;

  • Be the academic and administrative head of the university;

  • Be the secretary to the council;

  • Be the Chairperson of the Management Board, Senate and any other University Committee as may be provided by the regulations;

  • Have overall responsibility of the direction, organization and administration of the programmes of the university;

  • Be responsible for the implementation of the Council’s decisions in a result oriented and timely manner to achieve the university’s goals, objectives and agreed targets; and

  • Any other responsibilities as Council may direct to achieve the university’s objectives
