Position in OrganisationGrade: 4
Reports to: Programme Coordinator (East Africa Crisis), based in the UK.
Direct Reports: None.
Relates with: Global Cash Adviser (UK Based) and Humanitarian Support Manager (UK Based), Country Directors/Representatives (Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan), relevant project staff in each country, Programme Manager (Somaliland), ESAT Deputy Geo-head (UK Based) and Business support functions both in country and UK based (HR, Finance and Logistics), Other members of the Appeal team Regional Humanitarian Adviser, DMEAL Coordinator, Policy Officer (UK Based) and Programme Support Assistant (UK Based)
Organizational Requirements
The post-holder will, at all times, carry out their responsibilities with the utmost respect for the protection of children in accordance with Tearfund’s Safeguarding Policy.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Strategy
Provide CTP and contingency planning input to inform the regional East Africa Response strategy.
Monitor the humanitarian situation and potential future scenarios with respect to CTP, contributing to detailed reports and analysis, recommending appropriate CTP-related responses.
Ensure CTP best practices and Tearfund’s purpose, values, and the programme objectives are communicated effectively with all stakeholders (Tearfund and Partners).
Through engagement in regional and national clusters and working groups, monitor further trends in CTP service delivery across the region.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent level of education in
relevant Sector
Experience
● Significant experience of implementing
CTP projects
● Proven team management in humanitarian environments
● Successful experience of project cycle management including in needs and market assessments, proposal and report writing
● Proven experience of successful capacity building of humanitarian field staff and partners on CTP
● Experience of working in complex emergencies and insecure locations

Tearfund Humanitarian Response Advisor (East Africa) Jobs in Kenya
Humanitarian Response Advisor (East Africa) Tearfund has recently scaled up our response to the Food Security crisis in East Africa, creating a new opportunity for an experienced humanitarian to join our team to support our response across the region and build on the effectiveness of Tearfund and partner staff in humanitarian response.
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Humanitarian Response Advisor, based in Nairobi, Kenya to provide support to Tearfund’s East Africa Crisis Response (covering Ethiopia, Kenya and Somaliland, and potentially South Sudan). This is an exciting and varied role.
Building effective humanitarian response capacity
Your major focus will be working closely with our country teams to improve the humanitarian response capacity of our Tearfund staff and partners.
Deployment to support responses
The role will involve supporting partner-led to the crisis, to undertake assessments, guide and advise partners, help develop project design, and support monitoring and reporting, developing preparedness and contingency plans.
Contributing to learning
You will make a valuable contribution to Tearfund’s learning culture, participating in evaluations, coordinating and facilitating learning reviews, ensuring learning on humanitarian good practice is disseminated and applied.
Regional representation
Your role will also include some representation to external networks and humanitarian funding sources, INGO/NGO coordination groups and providing support in developing partner consortiums.
You will be educated to degree-level or equivalent and have proven and substantive field-based experience in a disaster management, with a thorough understanding of relevant good practice codes and standards and relevant sectoral experience (primarily WASH and Food Security and Livelihoods).
You will have strong creative capacity building and training skills, and have a proven track record in project cycle management, effective support management (Finance, Logistics), capacity building staff and partner organisations, and successful proposal development.
You will be a strong team player, able to influence and bring others along with you in critical settings. You will be accustomed to working unsupervised and responding to tight deadlines.
Applicants require strong English language skills (written and spoken). All applicants must be committed to Tearfund's Christian beliefs.
This is a fixed term contract for 2 years.
Location:
The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with significant travel (at least 60%) within the East African region (mainly Somaliland, Kenya and Ethiopia). Applicants must be able to provide proof of the right to live and work in Kenya.
