Job Description
Our client has been a leading tea producer and exporter in Uganda for over 20 years. It is one of the leading corporations in the private sector in Uganda contributing more than 10% of Uganda's national tea production.
About 80% of the company's production is exported, earning valuable foreign exchange for the country.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Tea Factory Manager is expected to plan, monitor and evaluate factory operations and maintain high levels of production and standards in line with the Business Plan, relevant policies, national and international standards
Plan, monitor and evaluate the production on a daily basis
Review the availability of green leaf and draw daily production plans and determine daily processing parameters, capacity utilization and efficiency
Carryout man power planning in relation to productivity
Perform regular tea testing and ensure the quality standards are adhered to
Review the daily reports of production and ensure that volume and quality standards are achieved as per the production plans.
Implement and enforce compliance to national and international standards and legal requirements
Interpret national and international standards, develop procedural manuals and guidelines for implementation and enforce compliance
Train employees in the factory on standards requirements
Determine grading standards, packing weights and coordinate the transportation of tea
Define the grading standards for the export sales and local sale.
Coordinate transportation of tea for export
Maintain optimal inventory of packing materials
Determine packing weights
Monitor the quality of tea produces and ensure that defined quality parameters are achieved.
Plan, Budget and monitor factory operations, and maintain up-to date factory records
Prepare and submit annual factory budgets
Prepare daily and monthly factory production reports
Prepare daily green leaf quality reports
Monitor the factory budget performance for cost control
Budget for staff salaries, advise management on promotions, increments, protective gears and staff needs
Participate in strategic planning and budgeting and in subsequent reviews of the strategy
Manage the performance, development, welfare and benefits of staff in line with the HR policies, union terms and conditions
Coach subordinate staff and initiate in-house training and identify suitable training programs for staff
Plan for manpower and employee rotations
Participate in recruitment, confirmation, promotions processes.
Maintain employee
discipline, manage and settle conflicts and grievances in line with company policies and union terms and conditions
Monitor staff performance and productivity
Ensure the safety of staff is given priority and the working environment is safe
Initiate training and identify suitable training programs for engineering staff
Coordinate with Engineering Department to ensure production and maintenance functions are aligned and expansion and quality improvement programmes are implemented as per the Business plan.
Coordinate with the Engineering Department to ensure that production plans are aligned with the maintenance plans
Work with the Engineering Department for the successful implementation of projects for capacity expansion, quality improvement
Initiate procurement requests for Production Department and follow-up on the status
Plan the requirements for inputs for the Production Department
Monitor the inventory levels of inputs (such as packing materials) and initiate the procurement process
Liaise with the procurement unit and suppliers for delivery of items
Coordinate with Field Department to ensure that adequate supply of fire wood received and stocked as per the Production Plan
Coordinate with the brokers on improving product quality
Receive tea tasting reports from brokers and work on the recommendations
Liaise with the brokers on planning for their official visits
Obtain feedback from buyers through the brokers on product quality.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering or Food science and Technology or a related field
At least five years’ experience in a processing industry specifically in a tea factory.
Knowledge of; Tea processing, Machine operations and Quality and HSE standards
Planning and Organizing skills
Monitoring and evaluation
Good interpersonal and communication skills

Risk management skills
Analytical and problem solving skills
