Job Summary

Reporting to the Deputy General Manager, Legal Affairs and Board Secretary the incumbent will provide support to the in the provision of Legal advisory services to the Corporation in the course of the execution of its mandates.

The officer shall provide legal expertise to the legal team in monitoring and advising the Corporation on compliance with contractual obligations, development and implementation of Board and Management strategies, policies and procedures on Legal Affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Conveyancing and Litigation
  • Identifying and recommending training needs for Division’s staff;
  • Leading in implementation of the department’s
  • Strategic Plan initiatives, performance Contract commitment and annual work plans.
  • Supervising staff in the division;
  • Reviewing legal documents/instruments, opinions and briefs;
  • Drafting and reviewing legal instruments;
  • Reviewing and monitoring progress of outstanding litigations and advising on necessary interventions;
  • Liaising with the Attorney General Office and external lawyers on Legal matters
  • Attending court when called upon so to do.
  • Monitoring compliance with statutory obligations;
  • Conducting legal research, preparing legal briefs and opinions;
  • Preparing periodic management reports; and
    Developing and keeping in safe custody the Corporation legal instruments;

    Legal Advisory

  • Identifying and recommending training needs for Division’s staff;
  • Coordinating annual legal audits for the Corporation;
  • Supervising staff in the legal division;
  • Providing legal support and services to the programmes in which the Corporation will be involved and advising on legal issues;
  • Managing panel of legal and other consultants
    implementing the department’s performance management;
  • Reviewing legal documents/instruments, opinions and briefs;
  • Formulating and implementing guidelines for ensuring compliance with statutory requirements of the Corporation and Legal issues;
  • Reviewing and advising Management on legal implications of internal policies;
  • Providing legal protection and risk management advice in regards to contract management;
  • Undertaking research, monitoring the
  • Corporation’s operating legal
    environment and recommending necessary reviews to relevant laes and regulations.
  • drafting various reports to different government agencies when called upon so to do

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Eight (8) years’ relevant work experience, at least four (3) in management;
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in active litigation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Laws from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s degree in Law
  • Diploma in Law (KSL) and Advocate of the High Court;
  • Membership to LSK;
  • Certificate in Management Course lasting not less four (4) weeks
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
  • Experience in banking law and/or commercial to be an added advantage.

    Professional Qualifications
