To help us drive our success into the future, we are looking for an experienced Mainframe zVM/zLinux, Technical Specialist to join our Infrastructure & Operations team at our Johannesburg offices.

Job Purpose

To be the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in your technical domain by providing solutions and advice to business across multiple complex problem sets, working with vendors to improve IT technical domain solutions as well as providing support to junior staff.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

• Perform deploy and operate work that pertains to zVM and zLinux administration.

• The installation, maintenance and performance management of the zVM/zLinux and related vendor products

• Support application teams

• Support other infrastructure teams i.e. (z/OS and DB2 and different application teams, SAP Core Banking and Legacy Applications running on zVM)

• Provide guidance as required to the architecture and design teams.

• Perform deployment work for projects on demand and in accordance with project schedules.

• With respect to zVM/ZLinux Applications -
- Deploy fixes/PTF’s, refreshes, and upgrades in accordance with related deployment and release schedules.
- Define zVM/zLinux resources

- Ensure systems perform optimally by monitoring performance and make recommendations to the capacity management team.

• Perform DR exercises as directed by the BCM regime.

• Resolve incidents and problems and escalate 3rd level support requirements to 3rd party support contractor(s) and coordinate support provision. Service restore shall satisfy service level agreements.

• Maintain run books for zVM/zLinux operations utilising deployment- and maintenance guides directives originating from Products & Services.

• Interact with Applications teams/Architecture to optimise and maintain zVM/zLinux infrastructure and operations service levels at a level that fully endorse GTI’s service level agreements with its customers.

• Support Operational Controls processes (Audits, Risk and DR& BCM governance, business processes improvements, performance management, and finance and business management), supply requested information and implement corrective actions as applicable.

• Perform standby and call out duties as required

• Provide operational maintenance and production support including consultation, facilitation and implementation of Technical domain functionality

• Maintain alignment to the architectural plan and roadmaps

• Manage internal and external relationships

• Remain and maintain a current awareness of the relevant technical IT domain

• Provide technical expertise in the relevant technical IT domain

• Mentor, educate and coach team members

Preferred Qualification and Experience

Qualification:

Degree in IT & Computer Sciences

Experience

7-10 years good understanding of z/OS

7-10 years good zVM/zLinux skills and experience

Good understanding of the latest available Mainframe IT Infrastructure.
