Job PurposeTo provide support to the Dispute Resolution team and facilitate the continuance of day to day activities by investigating, retrieving and collating information and reporting on disputes/cases.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Client
Adhere to Standard Bank Group (SBG) toolbox standards in order to initiate standard contracts and provide legal services, where required.
Address internal client needs by providing basic to intermediate technical legal advice to Legal Teams within the Country or Product Areas and external legal representatives, generally under supervision, given limited experience.
Data
Adhere to SBG data security standards, ensuring compliance with data regulations, especially pertaining to data privacy.
Maintain a case database, keeping an up to date and accessible record of matters.
Financial Management
Engage in the invoicing of clients and follow up with debtors so that monies owed are paid timeously.
People
Build and develop relationships across the different internal legal teams and with various stakeholders so that the business unit remains involved and aware of internal developments.
Develop and manage relationships with identified external stakeholders relevant to the business and external regulatory bodies so that pertinent business networks and connections may be relied upon.
Risk, Regulatory, Prudential & Compliance
Receive information pertaining to disputes/recoveries/instances where legal action may be required and assess claims based on the merit of information presented and establish whether a case for dispute/legal action exists.
Investigate instances and information pertaining to the case to ensure that the necessary documentation and evidence is available to initiate action/substantiate a dispute.
Attend to all objections during disputes, if necessary, and ensure that proper record of objections
is maintained.
Follow due processes in cases dealt with, understand the implications of non-compliance or non-adherence to policies and procedures.
Conduct short- to medium term planning for effective delivery of solutions to problems identified; delivering "ready-to-go" legal recommendations to senior leader for signoff.
Implement localised SBG Legal decisions to apply SBG Legal standards consistently; in consultation with Line Manager.
Make use of the available tools to support the management of legal risk, including but not limited to risk reporting so that risks are managed in a proactive manner; adhere to SBG legal risk polices when executing tasks.
Research case studies and legal precedent and assess the implications thereof so that the function's and industry knowledge may be leveraged.
Consult with internal clients to understand business requirements and provide sound legal advice pertaining to the drafting, vetting, review, dissemination and/or negotiation of standard legal documentation and processes, providing clear and accurate legal opinions based on sound judgment.
Technology & Architecture
Respond to business requests and appreciate client centricity through effective, efficient execution of transactions utilising technology.
Utilise the relevant technology requirements in order to drive the optimisation of work output.
Use digitisation effectively to work smarter and faster on manual intense tasks which involve systems and processes.
Preferred Qualification and Experience
Legal Degree
Relevant professional membership
5-7 years Proven experience in case planning, development and management, legal research, drafting and analysing legal documents, with at least 3 years within the legal and/or financial sectors., or a law firm in a dispute resolution role.
