South African Medical Research Health Specialist Scientist - Medical Scientist Jobs
A post has become available for a Specialist Scientist in the Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform.
The Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform is a dynamic research platform within the Centers and Platform Office of the South African Medical Research Council.
The Platform focusses on health research and innovation, aimed at the early detection, prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
To cover the multifaceted aspects of the post, we require an energetic person with a human genetics background applicable to research in the fields of diabetes and related metabolic disorders.
Core Requirements:
PhD degree in human genetics or related qualification with suitable post-graduate experience in molecular genetics and biochemistry
HPCSA registered, having experience in public bioinformatic/genetic databases, in particular GWAS and SNP databases and be able to perform core statistical methods (e.g. linear regression, logistic regression, linear mixed models, multivariate data etc.) for the analysis of large genetic datasets
Experience with post-graduate teaching and supervision
Experience writing research grants and papers
Ability to work as a team member and plan own research
Sound communication skills
Advantageuos
5 or more years’ experience in leading multi-omics-based research
Additional experience in bioinformatics
Experience with Next Generation Sequencing or bioinformatic analysis is highly desired
