The HIV Prevention Research Unit (HPRU) seeks to appoint a Project Manager: Community Engagement, to lead and manage the community engagement programme within the unit, in compliance with good participatory practice.
The post will require the incumbent to subscribe to South African and international community ethical guidelines. Key areas of work will include scientific writing, stakeholder networking, communication, training and quality management.
The Project Manager Community Engagement will provide leadership and technical support to all community-/stakeholder engagement activities at the Clinical Research Sites, and in any other studies conducted within/by the Unit.
The incumbent will support the units Principal Investigators, Senior Management, Deputy Director and Director on community engagement activities relating to research projects.
This includes capacity development, skills training, and developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholder and Community Advisory Boards.
Responsibilities:
Develop Community involvement strategies at provincial, national and international level.
Engage with external stakeholders (NGO’s, Hospitals, Sponsors, Community Leaders) regarding unit studies.
Present study and study findings to stakeholders if required
Provide technical support to community engagement efforts at the Clinical Research Sites – including training, community education, program evaluation and support for recruitment, retention and outreach program development
To ensure that community staff follow the protocol when recruiting staff and adherence to SAGCP and GPP.
Monitor, evaluate and develop revised recruitment, retention and adherence strategies for the unit studies.
Develop, review
and manage the local language material
Develop and Review Community SOP’s
Ensure ethical, GCP compliance and sponsor requirements for study information dissemination (study results, study safety updated etc)
Report on recruitment/ retention statistics and progress
Review and evaluate community engagement outcomes
Manage Human Resource, Operations and Skills development within the community team.
Core Requirements:
Masters in Community Development or Public Health or Social/Behaviourial Science or a relevant health related discipline
5 years ‘experience in planning, leading and monitoring community engagement and stakeholder management in infectious diseases or a health research environment
3 years’ experience with Project Management (Staff management, team training, capacity development and mentorship)
Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills
Effective and excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and writing skills
Computer literate in MS packages and spreadsheets
Fluent in isiZulu and English
Hands on experience with social media management
Code 8 Driver licence
Added Advantages:
Greater than 5 years’ research experience
Greater than 3 years project management experience
5 years’ experience in a clinical trials environment
Training and Understanding of Good Participatory Practice, Good Clinical Practice with a valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice
Applicant must be able to work under pressure and work within a multidisciplinary team
Development of communication programs and materials (print and social media) and liaison with communication department
