Position title: Regional Child Protection AdvisorWorking location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

ResponsibilitiesEnsure development of clear regional strategies on child protection
Coordinate, support and ensure the consistency of MA strategic and annual planning on child protection for MA’s identified as priority countries for child protection,
Provides information, advice and expertise in the field of work, in line with the priorities identified
Finds information on important activities and events of the civil society, international organizations, NGOs and suggest to the Regional PD Director and the appropriate participation.
Liaises with partners, recommend, organize and prepare meetings with key potential partner organizations as agreed with the Director of Programming.
Leads the development of tools, systems and structures to support child protection.
Interprets the organisation’s policy frameworks and actively participate in to the development of the work on child protection.
Tracks and records the work within the countries on his field of work, through reviewing progress reports & statistics, other monitoring & evaluation reports, and regular contact with relevant staff and country/programme visits
Advises national focal persons on the development of required resources (tools, systems &structures), through relevant regional forums and processes.
Drives regional planning processes in this area of work, facilitates relevant sessions of regional forums. Ensure that appropriate targets, objectives and actions are set
Gather relevant information, from inside and outside the organisation, to support the development of these areas of work. This includes information regarding OVCs, child rights- based approaches, and alternative forms of childcare.
Is a resource for other Programme Development Advisors in the region for child protection issues.
Position
requirements
Master or Bachelor degree in Social Work, Human Rights, Child Protection or relevant field
Minimum 5 years extensive experience, progressively responsible, working in child protection programming,
Extensive experience in building strong child protection systems and in delivering services to children, including in emergencies
Ability to assess and analyse risks, children’s emotional, psychological and developmental need and family functioning.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Act as key account responsible for gender topics for leadership and governing bodies of SOS Children’s Villages International
Establish and maintain consultation on gender with other functions and regions of the organisation.
Support all countries that have gender actions in their 2020 strategies in implementing gender mainstreaming:
Support countries in setting-up gender-sensitive programmes
Collect and share lessons learned on gender equality to build knowledge and capacity
Assist with quality assurance of (IPD) proposals upon request
Support Human Resources & Organisational Development (HROD) in mainstreaming gender equality measures:
Promote and advocate for strong gender (policy) HR principles including gender equitable work practises
Establish accountability mechanisms to measure progress towards gender equality in the organization and achievement of the targets set
Requirements
Master’s degree or equivalent in Gender Studies, International Development, Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences, Social Sciences or related field. Some specialized study on gender and gender issues must be part of academic background.
At least five years of relevant experience in development work for national and international organisations. Experience in developing and designing a gender strategy, and managing its implementation.
Experience in capacity development and setting up gender training concepts would be an asset
Experience in managing content related projects and leading related team members with proven ability to advocate for gender issues at senior level
Proficiency in written and spoken English; ability to communicate and present in leadership meetings; Spanish and/or French an asset
