Job DescriptionWho we areSOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation.
The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974.
The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing their parental care.
Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child should grows up with love, respect and security.
Why we need you?We are looking for a Project Officer that can guide and support the livelihood development of families through taking various initiatives on areas of employment opportunities, strengthening of SACCOs , CBOs and providing Entrepreneurship trainings.

Your role....As a Project Officer, you will be in charge of the following:
Leading the initial assessment of families of potential child participants
Facilitating the preparation of a family’s first family development plan (FDP)
Supporting workers of the community-based partner(s) in their work with families
Supporting the monitoring & evaluation of the project
Supporting SACCOs and CBOs in establishing standard operation and management procedures,
Training SACCO management members
in operational and management practices of micro-finance,
Work with and coach volunteers supporting families, CBOs and SACCOs
Assessing private sector partners and facilitating linkage to youth entrepreneurs and job seekers
Preparing periodical reports and providing analysis and recommendations
Following up on the procurement of program inputs
Identifying institutions, resources, individuals, agencies and BDS providers to offer training programs and products, training expertise, saving and cooperative knowledge and services,
Periodically collect institutional, financial, and operational data and prepare reliable and standard report on SACCOs and CBOs

The must haves:
BA degree in Economics, Rural Development, Social Work and /or other related social fields.
Minimum of 4 years relevant work experience out of which two years spent on working directly on IGA,SACCO/VSLA
Proven experience in facilitation and community mobilization
Fluent spoken and written English
Good communication and interpersonal skill
Good analytical and reporting skills, including ability to identify problems and possible solutions
Computer literate
The pluses:
NGO experience on youth livelihoods and sound knowledge of entrepreneurship and financial services
Awareness and basic understanding of issues affecting orphans & vulnerable children
Understanding of child development issues, including knowledge of child rights, child protection, child welfare, childcare and parenting; and relevant local and national laws, regulations and protocols.
Collaboration skills, being driven to work with others and able to build strong working relationships community members and groups.
Hands on experience on food security projects, youth empowerment, Value chain, SACCO/VSLA models
Experience in Monitoring, evaluating and reporting
