South Sudan - Field Coordinator (Base Opening) - RAJAAbout the missionDesired start date: august 2017
Duration of the mission: 6 months
Location: Dhaka, with frequent field visits to bases
The context:SI has been operating in South Sudan since 2006, and has developed activities in emergency and post emergency contexts, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. Its expertise in running emergency WaSH intervention is highly acknowledged by all WaSH actors and donors present in the country.
We currently operate an Emergency Preparedness and Response program throughout the entire country, as well as Wash activities in the PoC in Malakal, and emergency Wash assistance in informal settlements in Upper West Nile state.
The mission strategy is to continue along with our focus on WASH/EPR interventions and to develop stronger responses to food security and livelihood needs.
The mission:The mission coordination is based in Juba (5 expatriates) as well as the EPR team (4 expatriates). The Malakal base (4 expatriates) is also supporting a sub-base in Aburoc (1 expatriate). The current Head of mission has stabilized the expatriate turnover on the mission with more experienced coordinators and the team benefits from a lasting positive dynamic.
The program:SI is launching a new project in partnership with the INGO ALIMA and will cover the Wash activities impacting maltnutrition in the framework of this multisectorial project that targets IDPs and host communities of the area.
FunctionsThe responsibilities:The field coordinator has the role of delegated head of mission in an area of a country where SI intervenes. His responsibilities include:
Context and security management: the field coordinator is in charge of analyzing the context and overseeing the security of all staffs in collaboration with his/ her Head of mission
Staff management : the field coordinator is the hierarchical manager of all SI staffs in the area
External representation: with donors, partners, local authorities…
Strategy: the field coordinator contributes to the development of an intervention strategy in the area according to the geopolitical and humanitarian context and ensures its implementation once validated

The main stakes:
This will be a base opening: there will be logistic and human resources challenges to overcome to ensure a smooth opening and a swift implementation of SI procedures.
