Organizational BackgroundSolidaridad is a global network civil society organization with expertise in developing sustainable market-oriented supply chains, farmer training, certification and credit linkages related to coffee, cocoa, cotton and 10 other commodities.
The organization has experience in managing international programmes working with grass root organizations, producers, civil society and local government, and core and support role private sector actors.
Solidaridad has a strong presence in Africa and Asia, as well as North, Central and South America (www.solidaridadnetwork.org).
Solidaridad is currently in the process of implementing the Certification and Beyond Project: “Market access for sustainable coffee, horticulture and tea from Tanzania. The project will be implemented in Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba), Mbeya, Njombe, Ruvuma and Songwe with the aim of supporting the development of the coffee, tea and horticulture Sectorsin Tanzania.
The overall objective for this action is to address issues surrounding effective use of certification schemes and use of voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) to improve and drive market opportunities for Tanzanian “branded” sustainable tea, coffee and horticulture products.
Solidaridad proposes to mobilize the value chain actors, including the government, research, private sector and the VSS service providers to sensitize and create awareness of smallholder farmers on sustainable production of high quality agricultural commodities, food safety, benefits of VSS mechanisms and eventual integration of sustainability practices in their business-as-usual model.
The Specific objectives will include:
improving domestic, regional and international market access for Tanzanian “branded” sustainable tea, coffee and horticulture products;
supporting the adoption of identified voluntary sustainability standards.
As part of the interventions towards gender integration the project will build capacity within to ensure that gender inclusivity is an integral part of all the project’s outputs.
Through a gender analysis conducted at the baseline, gender issues will be identified with a focus on the dimensions to gender inequalities in the sectors project outputs.
Gender inclusivity interventions will then
focus on, among others, gathering support to women and youth participation, and compliance with the standards and benefit from the sector markets.
To enable a successful gender integration process Solidaridad is seeking for a consultant to conduct a gender analysis.
Objectives
The overall objective of this assignment is to conduct a gender analysis of the Certification and Beyond Project: “Market access for sustainable coffee, horticulture and tea from Tanzania (Zanzibar, Mbeya and Njombe, Ruvuma and Songwe).
Deliverables
A proposal elaborating the project methodology, work plan,
budget and consultant competencies
An inception report
A draft report: The Consultant will submit a draft Gender Analysis report for review within two (2) weeks of returning from the field. A soft copy and three hard copies are to be submitted
All documents reviewed by consultant: The consultant will submit a copy or links of all policy, program and other support documents reviewed during the gender analysis at submission of final report
Gender Analysis Report: The Consultant will prepare a report that describes the Gender Analysis and puts forward the Consultant’s findings and recommendations, including an abstract/executive summary. The presentation of results is to be intrinsically linked to the Gap analysis issues, and establishing a flow of logic development derived from the information collected.
A soft copy and 3 hard copies are to be submitted in the following format:

Qualification, Skills and Experience
The consultant MUST have minimum academic post graduate qualification in Gender studies.
Or an equivalent of a minimum of a Post graduate qualification in Social sciences with evidence of a course unit in gender studies or related field.
Experience in development work in gender, social inclusion and women empowerment is a plus.
Experience working in the context of East and Central Africa is a plus.
The Consultant must show prior experience conducting gender analysis studies.

1 updated CV for the consultant. The CV should illustrate relevant work experience and qualifications;
Electronic copies of reports of 2 previous consultancies for similar assignments conducting gender analysis, gender audits or gender assessments specifically in the field of gender studies
A link to previous publications in the field of gender studies.
