About The RoleWe are seeking an experienced individual to join our management team in a largely work-from-home setting. Someone located in Toronto, Nairobi, London or Washington, D.C. is preferred. The Grants & ESG role is responsible for the prospecting and strategic execution of the company’s existing and new grants program, with a special focus on government grants as well as private foundations.
The ideal candidate will have experience with global government, DFI, and private funders, and a track record of working effectively with management and finance team members on managing programs. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for preparing necessary ESG reporting for grant providers, Solar Panda investors and external stakeholders.
To be successful at this job, a candidate must:Prospect for funding opportunities consistent with organizational needs.
Prepare and write grant applications by collaborating with the senior management team to create the required business cases, financial budgets, and supporting documents.
Manage funder relationships through reporting, correspondence, facilitation of site visits, and regular check-ins.
Serve as the subject matter expert in support of grant project managers relating to allowable uses of grant funds, budget revisions, extension requests, program amendments, and contract compliance.
Prepare Environmental, Social and Governance documents and Impact reports as required for grant providers, investors and external stakeholders.
The right candidate must have the following traits:
Ability to generate new grant opportunities for Solar Panda through the candidate’s experience, network, and ability to research and lobby for prospects.
Strong and efficient writing and editing skills.
Demonstrated skill in grant, business, and persuasive writing.
Thorough understanding of international development programs, including terminology and language.
Be a strong story-teller: Solar Panda has a remarkable story and we need a person who can convey the positive impacts on electrification, the environment, poverty reduction, gender inclusion, as well as our growth story.
Be self motivated: operate well in an independent, work-from-home culture where the candidate will have significant autonomy and high expectations.
Ability to multitask, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Believe in the company's mission of improving the lives of millions of off-grid customers in Africa.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing, donor relations and prospect research.
Impressive track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 platform an asset.
