Purpose:
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Senior Legal Officer is responsible for assisting and supporting the Legal department in performance of its functions to ensure the Company’s interests are protected, and also provide legal support to Management, Business Units and Branch Network
Primary Responsibilities:
Drafting, vetting, reviewing, negotiating and providing advice on the implementation of all agreements, contracts and other formal arrangements for operational activities of SLIL with external service providers, business partners etc
In consultation with the Group Company Secretary, administering all aspects of conveyancing transactions that SLIL is a party to, in liaison with external lawyers including staff and agents mortgages.
Providing accurate and timely legal opinions on legal issues like commercial transactions, dispute resolutions, regulatory and employment to ensure that the
company’s interests are safeguarded.
Reviewing, vetting and recommending to the CE/GCS leases for the premises owned or leased by SLIL.
Managing the litigation function of SLIL in liaison with external lawyers, investigators, valuers and debt collectors.
In consultation with the Group Company Secretary, ensuring that SLIL complies with statutory requirements and regulations as set and revised from time to time by the relevant regulatory bodies.
Monitoring changes in relevant legislation, keep SLIL abreast of the changes and advise on any new compliance requirements, liability and/ or legal exposure
arising therefrom.
Compiling and submitting to Management periodical reports on operations of the legal department and undertaking trend analysis aimed at continuous improvement of the legal function within SLIL
Person Specifications:
Academic Qualification
Bachelor of Laws Degree from an accredited university
Professional Qualifications
Post Graduate Diploma (Dip KSL) from the Kenya School of Law
Experience
At least three years post-admission experience in a busy private law firm or in a similar role in a financial Institution or reputable organization.
Skills and Attributes
Techno savvy with a good understanding of all Microsoft applications
Good Communication skills
Team player
Interpersonal skills
