Position Description Seed Global Health (Seed) is a non-profit organization that envisions a world in which every country, strengthened by a robust health workforce, is able to meet the health needs of its population.
Seed’s mission is to educate a rising generation of health professionals to strengthen access to quality care with a goal of saving lives, strengthening health systems and improving health.
To achieve this, Seed Educators are placed as visiting faculty at our partner academic institutions to teach and work alongside local faculty.
In partnership, they strengthen the quality and breadth of nursing, midwifery and medical education and enhance the quality of clinical practice by strengthening skills through clinical mentorship, training and professional development opportunities.
Based on the needs of Ugandan communities and the government’s health priorities, Seed supports two critical areas in the country: Emergency Care and Maternal Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH).
Seed is seeking to hire a full-time Clinical Adviser for the Uganda office.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Clinical Advisor contributes his/her energy, passion and skills to supporting Seed’s Uganda country program during a time of demonstrating impact. The position is a full-time position based in Kampala, Uganda.
The Clinical Advisor provides clinical support and occasional representation to help position Seed to establish a clear, meaningful and engaged strategic position in Uganda. The incumbent should have informed thoughts/opinions, leverage existing and future relationships with leaders in emergency care or MNCH in order to put Seed Global Health on a demonstrable trajectory for success.
This full-time position reports to the Country Director and works closely with the Clinical Team, Programs team and the Senior Program/MEL Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Key roles and responsibilities include (but may not be limited to):
Technical support (80%)Support educators’ work through shadowing and providing technical & contextual input as required. This position will require dedicating at least one day a week of clinical time at one of the partnership sites.
Lead the clinical component of Seed’s in-country partnerships to ensure that activities and priorities can lead to measurable clinical outcomes.
In collaboration with the Programs and Clinical teams, provide technical oversight to quality improvement at partner sites and contribute to the development of a strong CQI program.
Provide clinical input for the in-country educator orientation working closely with the Programs team to ensure alignment to the pre-arrival orientation, site partnership work plans and educator job descriptions.
Provide clinical and contextual input to new proposals and partnerships in collaboration with Clinical, Programs and Development teams.
In collaboration with the Finance & Administration team and Programs team, provide technical input to Seed- supported procurement of supplies for partner sites to ensure alignment with clinical need, site context and national mechanisms and guidelines.
Provide support to the implementation of key programs such as Emergency Medical Services’ ECHO and any other initiatives with the Ministry of Health, National Council for Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Sports, and other stakeholders.
Work with the clinical teams, MEL teams and country team to document
and disseminate key outcomes from partnerships and any other initiatives the country program undertakes.
Policy and Thought leadership (10%)
Support the Country Director in overall policy outreach and maintaining strategic relationships in support of Seed’s portfolio in Uganda.
Identify opportunities for Seed to contribute thought leadership in agreed topical areas related to Seed’s vision.
Work closely with the Country Director, Senior PMEL Manager and Communications Team to generate op-eds, issue-based articles, manuscripts and podium presentations in support of Seed’s thought leadership in the country.
Representation (10%)
Represent Seed Global Health as requested within professional networks, communities of practice and technical working groups and advise Seed on priorities and trends within the clinical space and Human Resources for Health.
Attend events, meetings and other fora as delegated by the Country Director.
Qualifications, skills and experience
Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery, Nursing or Midwifery from a recognized university is required
A master’s degree in any of these clinical disciplines (Maternal and Child Health, Women’s health or Emergency Care,) is required
Experience and knowledge in Continuous Quality Improvement
At least 5 years of experience providing direct patient and clinical care
At Least 3 years of working in an international NGO or project setting
Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility and a sense of humor
A strong understanding of the health system in Uganda
A strong network within the health sphere
Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to build respectful relationships with colleagues from different cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced and rapidly growing organization
Excellent analytical, scientific writing, synthesis and report writing skills, proficiency in Microsoft 365 package (excel, word) and google suite.
Ability to work independently and proactively solicit required guidance to attain agreed deliverables
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and build mutually respectful working relationships with colleagues
Strong professional values such as Integrity, stewardship, inclusion, accountability and excellent work ethic
Immediate availability
Reporting This position reports to the Country Director with strong collaboration with the Clinical, Programs and MEL teams.
Working Conditions:
Will be based in Kampala, Uganda
Will be expected to travel domestically several times per year and occasional international travel
Compensation:
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience, health insurance, life insurance and related benefits.
