Save the Children is looking for an experienced consultant to undertake qualitative research into the drivers of child marriage in South Sudan.
The ongoing conflict and prevailing food insecurity in South Sudan is having significant negative impact on children, particularly for girls. Girls’ rights and wellbeing have been violated by armed conflict, poverty and humanitarian crisis, with reports of related increases in Gender Based Violence and child marriage.
The aim of this research is to provide insights into these dynamics and the drivers behind them, with a focus on child marriage – a practice which has enormous social, economic and human costs, and is a grave violation of children’s rights.
The objectives of the study are to:Identify the critical drivers of child marriage in South Sudan taking into consideration diversity of the population from region to region, and the role played by conflict and instability.
Understand the perceptions of children, parents, community leaders and government officials on the practice of child marriage and its impact on girls and boys
Develop a publishable country report on child marriage to shape public conversations and advocacy and campaign work on ending child marriage in South Sudan.
We are looking for a candidate with proven experience and expertise in gender and social policy and qualitative research methodology, preferably in fragile and sensitive contexts.
The contract will be for 25 days of work, including travel to and within South Sudan.
