  • Save the Children International is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Project Officer Catch up Clubs. The Project Officer will be responsible for community/school level implementation of Catch up Clubs (CuC) in coordination with the Lilongwe Rural East District Education office.

  • Catch-Up Clubs are a short-term, highly targeted, data-driven intervention aimed at building foundational skills in literacy, numeracy and social and emotional learning (SEL), in upper primary grades and ensure the most marginalized children succeed in school and are less likely to drop out. The project design is inspired by various disruptions in the education system due to several reasons and its part of Safe Back to School agenda.

  • The project officer in CuC will be responsible for day to day activities of the Catch up Clubs including being in constant liaison with school based stakeholders like Mothers Groups and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs). He/she will lead in designing data collection tools, training of volunteers on formative assessments and data collection; ensure data collected is of high quality.

  • S/he will be the focal point person for beneficiary registration database, onsite monitoring and all data collection exercises. S/he will be the focal point person for all accountability and learning activities in the project.

  • Further, through CuC , the project intends to strengthen community based child protection institutions and the officer will be responsible for managing the linkage between the school and child protection community groups.

  • The role holder will implement the CuC project in a manner that fosters networking and collaboration with central government education officials, district stakeholders (i.e. Community Development Officer, Child Protection Officers, Primary Education Advisors), local capacity strengthening (i.e. Head Teachers, School Management Committee (SMC), PTAs), meaningful active participation of children, accountability (internal and external to Save the Children)

  • This position will be based in the Lilongwe office with frequent travels to Lilongwe Rural to support, collaborate and coordinate with the school level team implementing the project. In case of emergencies or humanitarian situation, the position holder will be required to support in the response as assigned by the Country Office
    and will be required to work outside the normal profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • At least 3 years of progressive working experience in planning and implementing Education programs with INGOs.

  • Having at least two years of teaching experience in primary schools or as a Tutor in Primary School Teachers' Training College.

  • Must be willing to be based in the field; with a direct field time presence of 80% of working time.

  • Experience in conducting both qualitative and quantitative research

  • Experience in developing and managing Ms Access or Excel database and survey data

  • Processing packages like CSpro.

  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.

  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.

  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.

  • Experience in developing data collection tools and reporting formats

  • Experience in developing and working with Access or Excel database.

  • Previous experience of successfully securing MEAL resources and managing a budget.

  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner, and to use innovative forms of communication

  • Ability to ride a Motorcycle and in possession of a valid Class A riding license.

  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.

  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in English and Chichewa.
