Role Purpose:
Job Summary:
Health Officer based at each intervention sites of Gedeo woredas, will be responsible to implement the life-saving interventions component of the humanitarian health assistance project for Internally Displaced People (IDP), people returned to their original places and for hard to reach areas in SNNPR in Gedeb,Bule and Wenago districts.
S/he will provide technical support to health facilities including health posts as well as participate in carrying out essential lifesaving primary health care services.
The incumbent expected to work in collaboration with the district health offices, local stakeholders, staffs of Save the children and partners for effective implementation and monitoring of the project activities.
Job Specific Roles and Responsibilities Provide technical support to the district health workers and participate in carrying out essential lifesaving primary health care services to IDPs, people returned to their original areas, and far to reach areas who have no access to primary health care services in Bule, Gedeb and Wenago districts.
Participate in static clinic and/or Mobile Health and Nutrition Team (MHNT) to provide essential lifesaving primary health care services to vulnerable people in Bule, Gedeb and Wenago districts.
Coordinate the emergency health response activities such as IMNCI, ICCM, and surveillance of diseases, maternal and reproductive health in emergencies within the district.
Collaborate with the district health offices to improving access to primary health care, strengthening outbreak surveillance and response to vulnerable populations in Bule, Gedeb and Wenago district.
Makes sure that the health staff have adequate training on key maternal and child health activities per national manual/protocol,
Ensures the
availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products and drugs for program implementation at health facility level.
Follow and ensures, action taken by all responsible parties on gaps identified during supervision.
Supports and liaise with local health staffs and provide on the job training/coaching and capacity building where required.
Undertake individual evaluations with the team and improve gaps.
Makes sure that health professionals from the health facilities to participate on the daily routine work for sustainability and smooth phase out strategy,
Organizes Weekly, monthly, Quarterly reports and report on time to the project coordinator and provide updates when needed.
Reports any problems in a timely manner to the project coordinator,
Upholds the image and values of SC at all times,
Performs other related tasks as required,
Job Requirements
Minimum of two years working experience in Health related fields such as Public Health Officer, Nurse, and Environmental health.
BSc degree in Health related fields such as Public Health Officer, Nurse, and Environmental health.
Previous clinical and mentoring experience in emergency context
Demonstrable experience in supervising, coaching and mentoring others.
Demonstrable experience in health project implementation in NGO settings.
Work experience and training on BEmONC, and IMNCI.
Demonstrable experience in working with communities and knowledge of participatory approaches.
Previous similar clinical experience in emergency context.
Demonstrable experience in supervising, coaching and mentoring others.

Skills/Ability required:
Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation and monitoring.
Demonstrated skills in peer group training, Training of Trainers.
Strong computer (Microsoft skills), all and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours.
