Save the Children East and Southern Africa Regional Programming Unit (RPU) is part of Save the Children's ESA Regional office that exists to achieve change with regional and continental institutions for children most impacted by inequality and discrimination.
The RPU is uniquely positioned to interface the work of actors at the regional, continental and national levels to innovate and amplify impact. This approach provides leverage so that the rights of children are respected, protected and fulfilled by African governments where Save the Children International (SCI) has a presence in the region.
The scope of work under the Child Rights Governance Programme / Pillar includes: advocacy and influencing policy through building strong relationships with regional and sub-regional economic communities and mechanisms to enable accountability for children's rights; partnership with the African Union and sub-regional bodies such as the EAC, SADC and IGAD to deliver on child rights; promoting cross-country learning through research to generate evidence, developing knowledge products and tools as well as thought leadership events to improve programming in collaboration with the regional and country offices; and shifting the power through localisation by strengthening the capacity of CSOs, children and youth agency for effective advocacy towards enhanced accountability by governments in East and Southern Africa.
The CRG Programme Coordinator will use his/her technical knowledge in child rights governance and partnership management to support the delivery of programme initiatives under the above areas towards ensuring that children's rights are protected, promoted and fulfilled in ESA.
It also requires
the ability to liaise with other RPU programme pillars, support staff, CSO partners, country offices and other child rights actors for concerted efforts on child rights programming, as well as the implementation of Save the Children's Safeguarding Framework and Adult Safeguarding Policies (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse - PSEA - and Anti-Harassment Policy).
In order to be successful, you will bring/have:
Essential
Bachelor's degree in human rights law, law, international relations, political science, social sciences or other university education related to development and human rights.
At least 6 years qualified work experience similar to the tasks above.
Knowledge of and experience in working with children's rights and human rights.
Experience in advocacy
Experience with working closely with Government, community groups, UN agencies, Regional Mechanisms and local and international NGOS.
Strong analytical and networking skills and ability to work in a team.
Excellent writing skills.
Desired
Experience in fundraising activities is beneficial.
Understanding of and experience in project cycle management is beneficial.
