Samaritan Purse Deputy Country Director, Careers Opportunities in South Sudan
Job DescriptionSamaritan’s Purse has been working in the world’s newest country; South Sudan and Sudan, countries in desperate need of the gospel of Jesus Christ for over 20 years. SP-South Sudan (SPSS) is Samaritan’s Purse’s largest field office, operating across 5 bases primarily in emergency relief to refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Description of Job duties:Assist the CD and SMT to articulate and disseminate a clear vision and strategy for SPSS.
Provide leadership, management and strategy for all operational aspects of the SPSS country office, including donor and government engagement to ensure compliance and effective service.
Provide critical connections between Juba and field locations so that support functions in Juba operate effectively, efficiently and in a spirit of service to foster strong team morale.
Provide direct line management of the Operations Manager, Human Resources Manager, Access Manager, select Area Coordinators (ACs) and the Ministry Program Manager
Work closely with the Ministry Program Manager to ensure staff devotions and ministry outreach programs to the community foster spiritual development in line with the country office’s mission
Work with HR department and PMs to enhance staff capacity with a special focus on pursuing SPSS’ strategy of building local staff capacity
Qualifications:
Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
Bachelor’s degree from four year college or university and at least 3 additional years related experience or training.
One year of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.
Previous experience working overseas, particularly in Africa.
Three to five years of field level management experience in humanitarian aid, including experience in leading a large cross cultural team.
Strong prior experience working in a humanitarian relief environment, including management of donor funded projects

Description of Job duties:
Liaison between SP and Governmental/Non-Governmental authorities for collaborative programming on behalf of Samaritan’s Purse, including participating in applicable cluster meetings.
Manage the complete life cycle of grants within his/her assigned portfolio, from proposal development to grants closeout in the assigned sector/sectors (e.g., WASH, FSL, Nutrition, Health, etc.).
Act as primary driver of the proposal development process, working in close collaboration with Program Managers, Area Coordinators, Logistics, the National M&E Manager, and the Grants Manager to inform project design and determine feasibility.
Ensure that proposals meet all donor requirements and strategic priorities, as outlined in the donor’s guidelines for applications.
Draft budgets for proposals in close collaboration with Field Accountants, Program Managers, Area Coordinators, Logistics, and the Finance Manager. Ensure project budgets are aligned to objectives and log frames.
Organize grants opening meetings with Program Managers, Finance, Logistics, and field staff to review donor rules and regulations, work plans, and reporting requirements.
Ensure staff managing externally funded programs are trained to implement the program according to the donor agreement.
Monitor grant compliance for all departments, conducting periodic spot checks.
Job requirements:
Maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year College or university; or three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.
Experience working for INGO’s, preferably in Africa.
3 years’ experience in grants/contracts management.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of donor requirements especially (USAID, OFDA, CIDA, UNHCR, WFP, CHF, etc.)
