Our client, Salaam Investment Bank Kenya Ltd is the first Shariah compliant investment bank in Kenya having been licensed by the Capital Markets Authority in November 2018. They wish to recruit a key pioneer staff (Legal Officer).

Job Purpose

The role of this position is to provide advisory on legal and sharia implication on SIB dealings.

Principle Account-abilities

Review SIB business processes and procedures for legal risks and advise on how to at least mitigate them or eliminate them completely;

Review unique and one-off transactions and dealings of SIB with its stakeholders;

Advise on possible implications of legal environment on SIB’s strategy;

Review commercial contracts for legal risks and advise on the same;

Participate in developing and review of SIB products, services, policies and procedures for sharia compliance;

Keep a register of SIB shareholders, profile of directors and register of shares;

Ensure, by liaising with SIB appointed CPS, filling; filing and submitting of legal returns to the registrar of companies, CMA and other relevant legal authority has been made;

Ensure proper representation of SIB in case of legal matters in a court of law, commission or related authority in event of a legal suit or otherwise;

When required by SIB board chairman take minutes of the board, shareholders and other SIB proceedings;

Develop legal and sharia department’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and monitor and departmental staff against the KPIs and ensure

smooth running of administrative activities of SIB;

Participate in key decision as a member of Executive Team where he advise on the legal/sharia and related advisory services.

Person Profile

6-10 years’ experience in legal/company secretarial environment preferably in a financial institution;

Hold a Certified Public Secretaries (CPS-K) qualification;

Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;

Master’s Degree in Islamic finance or at least 5 years’ experience in an Islamic

Bank/Islamic Financial Institution would be an added advantage.

Professional Qualifications

Hold a Certified Public Secretaries (CPS-K) qualification;
