Resident Engineers supervise the planning, coordination and implementation of construction projects.
They ensure the projects adhere to all plans and regulations and that safety measures are appropriately taken.
A typical day may take place onsite of the current project or in an office preparing for a project. Resident Engineers are sometimes referred to as civil engineers.
Resident Engineers lead projects and supervise staff, but they report to a contractor or general manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
Checking the Contractor's surveys and setting out.
Inspection of construction activities, site installations and infrastructure, management of temporary material dumps, spoil dumps, aggregate and concrete production, etc.
Ensure that the Works are executed in accordance with the drawings and that the quality of workmanship and materials is in compliance with the technical specifications.
Evaluate and determine acceptability of substitute or equal materials and equipment proposed by the Contractor.
Carry out design changes if necessary during construction (for unforeseen conditions during the feasibility and detail design stage) and issue construction drawings and related specifications to the Contractor in compliance with the provisions of the Contract Documents.
Supervision of tests on site and in
laboratories.
Maintaining record of visits to site and meetings held; details of equipment standing or lost time; and any other matters affecting the progress or cost of the works.
Inform the client about problems or potential problems, which may arise in connection with the Works Contract and make recommendations for possible solutions.
Provide timely assistance and direction to the Contractor in all matters related to the interpretation or clarification of the Works Contract, ground survey controls, quality control testing and other matters related to Works Contract compliance and progress of the Works; and ensure prompt responses when the Contractor calls for inspections and approvals.
Ensure environmental protection measures are implemented to mitigate the impacts of construction.
Ensure health and safety regulations are complied with on site.
Review and approve the contractor's construction and as-built drawings.

Job Requirements
Educational Background
BSC in Irrigation/Hydraulic Engineering/Civil Engineering and MSC in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
Experience
General experience: 10 years of experience in Construction and Construction Supervision projects.
Specific Experience in Construction Supervision of at least 2 Dykes or Small Dams Project
