Job Vacancy: Communications Manager – Short Term Contract

The Feed the Future Kenya Crops and Dairy Market Systems Activity, hereafter referred to as KCDMS, is a five-year (October 0721 September 02) US 2022) AID program, funded as part of Feed the Future, the U.S. Government’s global hunger, and food security initiative.

KCDMS aims at improving the overall agricultural landscape in Kenya for horticulture and dairy with a focus on five priority areas: a competitive, inclusive, and resilient agricultural market system; diverse agricultural production and improved productivity; an improved policy environment for market systems development; integration of women and youth into agricultural market systems; and collaborative action and learning for market systems change.

The activity is led by RTI International in partnership with East Africa Market Development Associates (EAMDA) Farm Inputs Promotion Africa (FIPS), Making Cents International, Open Capital Advisors, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and Busar a Centre for Behavioral Economics.

We seek to recruit a short-term Communications Manager to be based in the Nairobi office.

Job Summary: Communications is an essential component in the overall Feed the Future goal of promoting global food security, poverty reduction and improving nutritional outcomes through agricultural interventions; given the need to continuously share information with key stakeholders in the industry.

As such, the Communications Specialist will oversee the internal and external KCDMS communication functions.

The temporary staff will assume the KCDMS communication functions and assignments that respond to the following:

S/He will facilitate the implementation of KCDMS’ integrated communications strategy focusing on showcasing USAID-KCDMS’ success interventions and lessons learnt for credibility, and targeted behavior-change communication.

Essential Duties:

Communicate KCDMS performance by processing, packaging and disseminating a wide range
of Information, success stories, learning pieces and reports among relevant stakeholders.

Technical Documentation and Reporting: work in collaboration with component leads, MEL team and Home office support team (Based in America) to edit, b and, and finalize KCDMS technical reports including but not limited to Bi-weeklies, Value chain analysis studies, quarterly reports, Annual report and work plan among others.

Knowledge management: facilitate development of KCDMS

Information, Education and Communications (IEC)materials and effective dissemination of the same through the most appropriate channels.

Maintain the USAID branding and Marking plan: provide guidance to teams internally and externally on how best to go about USAID branding on a need by need basis.

Ensuring that the branding requirements are upheld.

Maintaining the KCDMS photo database/video library: Continuously highlight the KCDMS interventions through photography and video documentation by external teams (Home office
photographers etc.)

Success story and learning pieces documentation: support finalization the learning ieces and success stories, and support dissemination to stakeholders.

Events Management: Support the component teams to plan and execute events both the KCDMS
initiated/ industry driven events and guide on branding requirements.

Support activity efforts towards Behavior Change Communications.

Media and publicity support: be a liaison for KCDMS media engagements with the US AID and
other stakeholders.

Social media support: consistently update/create any relevant activity pages following approval and work towards content generation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, PR, Mass Media or Information Science and 21 years of experience,

Master’s degree and 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in

Skills & Abilities

Ability to handle different communication formats.

Demonstrate high sensitivity and tolerance to cultural, religious, racial, national origin, age and gender issues.

Demonstrate discretion in the handling of sensitive and/or confidential issues. Use technology tools effectively.

Execute the communication process in knowledge management.

Follow the editions and archiving procedures of RTI and USAID

Support the elaboration and edition of reports.
