Job ProfileThe Dean serves as the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the Law School.
By so doing, the Dean provides strategic and operational leadership, management, vision and advocacy in all matters related to the academic and administrative functions of the School.
In particular, the Dean performs the following duties, among others:
Provide collegial leadership in the development of appropriate programmes, centres, institutes, and plans that further the objectives of the School.
Ensure the vitality, currency, and academic excellence of the School’s programmes and initiatives.
Promote and foster professional development activities of all members of the School related, but not limited to, leadership, classroom instruction, and transferable skills, among others.
Promote and spearhead scholarship through publications, lectures, research, and consultancy, among others.
Deliver lectures and provide appropriate support mechanisms to enable students excel in their studies.
Foster productive engagements with external stakeholders of the School.
Ensure continuous internationalization and global repute of the Law School.
Ensure the School continually complies with statutory and best practice requirements.
Perform any other duties that may be allocated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs or the Vice Chancellor.
Reporting Line
The Dean of the Law School reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs.
Tenure
The Deanship position is offered on a contractual position, spanning a period of five (5) years (renewable).
In case the Deanship position expires, is not renewed, or is lawfully terminated for any reason, the University may at its discretion offer an appropriate teaching position in line with prevailing statutory and institutional guidelines and requirements.
ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE
Must have an earned Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD), Doctor of Laws, or equivalent, in addition to earned Masters and Bachelor degrees in relevant fields, all from universities recognized by the Commission for University Education, in Kenya.
At least one of the three required degrees must be from an institution outside Kenya.
Should be able to meet the requirements of the position of Associate Professor in line with institutional and statutory guidelines
Ability to teach in any of the mandatory core subjects
required at undergraduate degree level by the Legal Education Act, or at least any two (2) of the core subjects in the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) offered at Riara University.
A record of outstanding achievement in university teaching and scholarship.
Experience in academic programme development, strategic planning, fiscal and academic planning, and resource management.
The position is open to both Kenyans and non-Kenyans, whether based in Kenya or outside Kenya. Terms and Conditions may apply for non-Kenyans.
