About Restless Development We know young people have the power to solve the challenges we face in our world, but they are being ignored and overlooked.
We are the agency that works with young people so they can lead in solving those challenges. Whether that means supporting communities to end child marriage or prevent HIV, we work with young people to change their lives and the lives of people in their communities.
Our programmes are genuinely life-changing, but can’t do any of this without talented, creative individuals at every level of our organisation.
About the Role
Preferred start date: Between September-December 2020
Length of contract: One four-year term renewable by mutual agreement for a further four years.
Expected travel: None (Board meetings usually happening in Lusaka but an online platform allows participants to dial in from anywhere)
Time Commitment Committed to attend:
• one Board meeting of 2 hours max per quarter (so a total of 4 per year).
• one sub-committee meeting per quarter of 1 hour max (so a total of 4 per year).
• and 1 full away day per year in the form of a retreat if funds allow. .
Key Priorities
• Leadership selection, including approving the appointment of the Hub Director.
• Strategic thinking, including approving the strategy proposed by the Senior Management Team.
• Financial oversight, including
a formal review of the organisation’s annual budget and audit, and supporting the Hub Director and leadership team in financial management and organisation.
• Guidance and Support, including giving advice to the Hub Director and Leadership team about the operations of the organisation in areas such as personnel management, strategic operational choices and adherence to all legal requirements and good practice for charitable organisations.
• Networking, including using your personal and professional network to assist the Hub Director and Leadership team in gaining access to relevant individuals and institutions to support the operation and growth of the organisation
• Fundraising, including assisting the Hub Director and leadership team in gaining access to potential donors and supporters, and providing advice and assistance more generally on areas of fundraising.
• Public Relations, including advice and assistance in raising and maintaining the profile of Restless Development in Zambia and internationally.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
• Passionate commitment to youth led development and social justice Desirable. Experience in one of the Board’s areas of responsibility. Including:
• Leadership
• Strategic thinking
• Fundraising and partnerships
• Evidence and innovation
