Position Title: Early Childhood Teacher
Department: Girls Empowerment Program
Supervisor: Daycare Supervisor
Position SummaryWe are currently seeking a compassionate, reliable, experienced Early Childhood Teacher to join our thriving daycare facility. In this role, you will provide an enriching learning environment, oversee children’s basic needs, and create a safe, compassionate “home-away-from home” for the children under your care.
Key ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Daycare Supervisor, the Early Childhood Teacher will undertake the following functions:
Submit a written lesson plan weekly to your supervisor for prior approval.
Interact with each child in a warm and friendly manner and encourage their involvement in activities.
Create and follow up each individual child’s files in their class and be knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.
Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean and appealing, allowing each child to grow and to explore.
Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
Oversee the health, welfare, and safety of the children.
Provide overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time.
Oversee all mealtime/snack time activities and related record keeping (for children in your class).
Maintain daily attendance records.
Maintain ongoing developmental records for each child, including of all developing skills (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
Keep a “portfolio” of each child’s progress, including photographs, and samples of their artwork and writing.
Maintain good communication with parents through the use of daily sheets, notes, or verbally.
Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
Maintain adherence to organizational policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
Attend weekly teachers’ meetings and staff meetings when required by your supervisor.
Submit weekly and monthly reports to your
supervisor.
Be punctual and timely in meeting all performance requirements, including but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines.
Perform any other lawful duties that may be assigned to you by your supervisor.

Specific Skills:
Communication skills: Has the ability to communicate effectively both speaking and in writing with girl mothers and other concerned staff about the progress of the children in their care.
Decision-making skills: Good judgment and the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies or difficult situations.
Instructional skills: Able to communicate difficult concepts to young children in a way that they can understand.
Interpersonal skills: Able to develop good relationships with other staff, children, and girl mothers, and empathetic to children’s emotions and parent’s needs.
Patience: Able to respond to overwhelming and difficult situations calmly, and to be patient with children who have difficulty expressing themselves or need lots of help in learning new skills.
Creativity: Able to think of new and innovative ways to engage children in learning.
Qualifications
Experience working with children between 3 months and 3 years of age, either in a day care set up or a children’s home.
KCSE Certificate.
A Diploma in Early Childhood Development & Education (ECDE), or a Montessori/DICECE certificate in Early Childhood is preferable.
Experience in First Aid.
Knowledge of safeguarding and other child protection issues.
