RefuSHE’s holistic program meets the imminent and longer terms needs of unaccompanied, separated, and orphaned refugee girls, young women, and their children.
It is the first and only organization dedicated to refugee girls in East Africa. Over the past fourteen years, RefuSHE has grown to become a leading institution and global thought-leader in the field of refugee girl and women protection, education, and empowerment.
Position summaryTitle: Child Protection Training Officer (National Position)
Reporting to: Capacity Building Manager
RefuSHE is requesting expressions of interest from qualified applicants for a Child Protection Training Officer position to be based in Nairobi to support an anticipated 2-year grant. The anticipated grant would enhance refugee communities’ capacity for child protection and gender-based violence prevention and response and reduce the reliance of refugee communities on humanitarian organizations to address protection needs at the community level. The program is anticipated to be implemented across six sites within Nairobi County. The program is expected to start in September 2022. The filling of this position is contingent upon successful grant award and funding.
The Child Protection (CP) Training Officer would be responsible for all capacity building trainings related to child protection. S/he should be an experienced technical expert in child protection and be comfortable leading trainings to community-based organizations and other community level structures on this topic. S/he should have ample experience leading capacity building trainings, developing curriculum, and working on training-focused programming.
Key Responsibilities:Lead all program training activities to community-based structures related to child protection
Develop high quality training curriculum on child protection
Participate in and/or lead community events that create awareness of or address child protection
Lead the capacity building assessment for community-based structures as it relates to child protection understanding, knowledge, and gaps
Coordinate across teams and organizations to develop and implement child protection training schedule
Provide technical assistance as new gaps in child protection emerge among community-based structures
Participate in periodic, multi-disciplinary program reviews to identify challenges, opportunities, and needs of the program as it relates to child protection training and knowledge sharing
Review the child protection policy and procedures to ensure it is relevant, current, and fit for purpose.
Keep abreast of developments in the field of child protection.
Raise awareness of code of conduct when dealing
with children.
Any other lawful duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in social work, community development or other relevant field from a recognized and reputable institution is required
At least 3- 5 years of direct experience in child protection
Demonstrated and significant experience in capacity building and/or training at the community level
Must have experience developing training curriculum and manuals
Demonstrated experience working across teams, departments, and organizations to schedule and implement activities
Comfortable and experienced working in fast-paced environments with tight timelines and little room for error
Proficient in program data collection
Experience working with highly vulnerable populations in required; experience working with refugees, conflict and post-conflict communities is an added advantage.
Ability to remain flexible in a dynamic environment.
Strong writing abilities for training manuals
Detail oriented, high energy, and strongly self-driven
Commitment to RK’s safeguarding and other policies on child protection.
