Redeem International Paralegal/Data Officer, Lira Jobs in Uganda



As a Paralegal/Enumerator for Redeem, you will collect the data necessary to measure the impact of Redeem’s intervention on the lives of widows and orphans, while also providing Redeem’s attorneys with the paralegal support necessary to effectively protect their clients from predatory eviction. Specific responsibilities include

Impact Evaluation

  • Collaborating with Redeem’s M&E Manager and organizational leadership in the development of
    Redeem's impact evaluation strategy and implementation model;

  • Liaising with local council leaders and other local authorities to identify populations of recently widowed women and orphaned children in Redeem's project area;

  • Conducting surveys and/or investigations to determine the prevalence of predatory eviction victimization among identified widows and orphans;

  • Collecting relevant data about survey and/or investigation subjects, including but not limited to demographics, marital status, land ownership and incidents of abuse;

  • Providing Redeem’s leadership with analysis, insights and commentary on the vulnerable populations identified and data collected from these vulnerable populations;

  • Connecting survey and/or investigation subjects who meet Redeem's casework intake criteria with Redeem's Investigators for potential assistance; and

  • Supporting other Paralegals/Enumerators in evaluations in their respective project areas as needed.

    Paralegal Support

  • Partnering with other members of the casework team in developing Redeem’s intervention strategy.

  • Assisting Redeem attorneys in researching and drafting legal documents such as contracts and pleadings;

  • Preparing, filing, retrieving and following up on documents with courts and other governing bodies;

  • Assisting clients in obtaining letters of administration, certificates of customary ownership, land titles and other similar legal documents from the Land office, Admin General's Office, and other governing bodies;

  • Assisting Redeem attorneys in preparation for litigation, mediation and deposition proceedings; and

  • Supporting clients, attorneys and law enforcement partners by serving as a bailiff and/or process server.

    Miscellaneous

  • Communicating with donors, supporters, media and other outside parties about Redeem’s work;

  • Contributing to the review and design of organizational systems, guidelines and policies;

  • Participating in Redeem’s professional development and spiritual formation activities;

  • Supporting other teams within Redeem in the achievement of their objectives;

  • Performing clerical duties (photocopying, filing, posting, errands, etc.) as needed, and

  • Completing other duties as assigned.

    Recruiting Profile:

    Redeem is looking for
    a highly skilled and responsible individual who will reflect these values while providing impact evaluation and paralegal support to Redeem’s efforts in Uganda. Specific attributes include:

    Experience

  • Required: A diploma in law recognized by Uganda’s Law Council, but not a degree in law;

  • Required: At least two years professional experience supporting an active criminal or civil litigation practice;

  • Required: Experience with surveying, witness interviewing, evidence collection, and/or data collection;

  • Preferred: A degree or equivalent work experience in criminal justice, M&E, development or related field;

  • Preferred: Experience using cloud-based data collection tools, platforms and systems;

  • Preferred: Experience working in start-up, international, matrixed and/or faith-based organizations;

    Skills

  • Required: Fluency in English and Langi with excellent written and oral communication in both;

  • Required: Knowledge of the basic Laws of Uganda, criminal court procedures, and regulations;

  • Required: Data collection and entry with impeccable attention to accuracy and detail;

  • Required: Computer literacy with strong capacity in word processing, email and other systems;

  • Preferred: Understanding of Google business suite and digital project management tools; and

  • Preferred: Legal research, writing and analysis.
