Main Purpose of Job Reporting to sales manager, the Business Development Consultant builds business by identifying and selling prospects through individual and team effort; maintaining relationships with clients. This is achieved through creation of ongoing activities that promote the agency and its products.
He/She learns from his customers to meet their needs while understanding their competitors and ensuring that they provide a superior product. He/She will have a cross-functional interaction with other departments in a bid to align initiatives with the overall brand and organizational goals.
This individual will work closely with the necessary stakeholders to ensure that all sales targets are met. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring that adequate reports are generated to ensure the management up to date.
Key Responsibilities/accountabilities
Attend meetings, seminars and programs to learn about new products and services, learn new skills, and receive technical assistance in developing new accounts.
Calculate premiums and establish payment method.
Call on policyholders to deliver and explain policy, to analyze insurance program and suggest additions or changes, or to change beneficiaries.
Confer with clients to obtain and provide information when claims are made on a policy.
Contact underwriter and submit forms to obtain binder coverage.
Customize insurance programs to suit individual customers, often covering a variety of risks.
Develop marketing strategies to compete with other individuals or companies who sell insurance.
Ensures policy requirements are fulfilled, including any necessary medical examinations and the completion of appropriate forms.
Explain features, advantages and disadvantages of various policies to promote the sale of insurance plans.
Explain necessary bookkeeping requirements for customers to implement and provide a group insurance program.
Interview prospective clients to obtain data about their financial resources and needs, the physical condition of the person or property to be insured, and to discuss any existing coverage.
Monitor insurance claims to ensure they are settled equitably for both the client and the insurer.
Perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining records and handling policy renewals.
Plan and oversee incorporation of insurance program into bookkeeping system of company.
Seek out new clients and develop clientele by networking to find new customers and generate lists of prospective clients.
Select company that offers the type
of coverage requested by client to underwrite policy.
Sell various types of insurance policies to businesses and individuals on behalf of insurance companies, including automobile, fire, life, property, medical and dental insurance or specialized policies such as marine, farm/crop, and medical malpractice.
Key Performance Measures
Sales worth 5 million, per month (to be aligned with the finance team)
Daily database updates, 100 entries per person daily and a lead generation weekly report
5 new clients from diaspora market weekly
All other reports monthly i.e (customer needs, target market, strategic planning etc)
At least four verified promotional activities should be running at all times per property to drive brand visibility and lead generation.
At least 1 client Referral/repeat client every month from each staff
Monthly Stakeholder Training with agents
Timely and relevant reporting weekly

Excellent data management skills and proficiency in the use of MS Office software applications

Good knowledge of life insurance.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business or relevant field.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in insurance sales or similar roles.
Mandatory C.O.P certification
