Background:Raising Voices is a non-profit organization based in Kampala, Uganda, working to
prevent violence against women and children (www.raisingvoices.org), through three main program areas: Practice, Learning, and Influencing.
We are seeking a passionate individual with experience, vision, and drive to fill the Program Manager position of the GBV Prevention Network.
The GBV Prevention Network was founded and is coordinated by Raising Voices.
Purpose:
The GBV Prevention Network works to increase momentum for violence against women prevention
by strengthening analysis, building connections and taking action to prevent VAW.
The Network includes over 1000 individuals and organizations working on violence against women across the Horn, East and Southern Africa.
The Program Manager provides strategic and inspiring leadership to the Network team and its members ensuring quality implementation of the Network’s strategic plan.
The Program Manager reports to the VAW Prevention Coordinator. S/he directly supervises the GBV Prevention Network Program Officer. This is a full-time position based in Kampala, Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and guidance on all aspects of the GBV Prevention Network strategy to
ensure achievement of the goals and objectives.
Oversee and guide the various feminist informed pieces of the Network through planning,
implementation and monitoring which includes leading on several areas of work.
Lead and support the production of various creative and vibrant materials for use in feminist
processes such as 16 Days of Activism, social media campaigns, etc
Provide technical assistance for Network members on critical VAW prevention issues.
Develop feminist content for and facilitate virtual and in-person engagements such as Get
Moving!, Rethink and Reenergize (R&R) processes and advocacy initiatives.
Ensure there is ongoing learning and documentation to enhance the breath and depth of
Network
initiatives.
Supervise, mentor and support the GBV Prevention Network team including staff, interns
and consultants.
Manage the GBV Prevention Network budget and support resource mobilization ensuring
that all Raising Voices funds are used ethically and efficiently.
Build and maintain productive relationships with members of the Network and other
partners.
Support formalization of partnerships through MOUs and contract development, management and reporting.
Represent Raising Voices in national, regional and global forums and events.
Maintain a constructive and respectful relationships with all staff, members, partners and stakeholders; demonstrating values by example.
Qualifications
Education
Masters Degree in relevant field of study or relevant work experience equivalent.
Essential Experience
At least 8 years of NGO experience in a senior position.
In-depth knowledge of VAW prevention, feminism and movement building.
Track record for publishing (academic papers, thought pieces, blogs, reports, etc).
Competencies
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Excellent strategic planning, analysis and visioning skills.
Excellent management skills.
Familiarity with various social media platforms.
Capacity and willingness to strategically prioritize under competing demands.
Creative ability to facilitate energetic feminist processes.
Integrity.
Collaborative spirit.
Commitment to feminist principles and Raising Voices’ values.
