Introduction

Radio Africa Group, the home of Kenya’s top talent, is a fast-growing and dynamic media company consisting of six radio stations, a multi-channel television station, several digital products and the Star newspaper and website.

We are looking for a talented, energetic, ambitious and self-motivated individual keen on a career-enhancing opportunity to fill the position of Sports Writer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or relevant field.
  • Three years’ journalism experience, preferably in a busy media environment in a similar position.

    The Person
  • An ardent sports person.
  • A good understanding of the sports world and what the fans want to know.
  • Excellent command of English with advanced written and verbal skills.
  • Meticulous, keen eye for detail.
  • Energetic, self-driven.
  • Strong sense of ethics.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

    Key Responsibilities
  • Write informed, exciting, captivating sports stories for all our platforms within the assigned deadline
  • Write analytical and predictive sports stories that go beyond the routine daily sports news.
  • Ensure that the content is accurate, compelling, captivating, literate, well back-grounded, unbiased, sound, numerate and free from libel.
  • Stay connected with the sports community and sporting bodies and personalities and build consultative partnerships and sources for sports news and keep abreast of the latest trends in the industry.
  • Attend all assigned sporting events, conferences and other meetings and provide coverage and analysis as is required and ensure follow ups are thereafter done.
  • Ensure zero
    cases of libel as a result of negligence.
  • Cover diverse sports without an inclination to the traditional sports as part of growing interest of readers in a varied range of sports while giving emphasis to the popular sports.
