The primary goal of project is to support strengthening the national routine immunization program through support on advocacy and communication, generating demand for vaccines, improving vaccination coverage, optimizing vaccine impact, new vaccine introduction, improving data management and improving equity of access to immunization services to reduce illnesses and deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Regional project coordinator will be seconded to Ethiopia Somali regional health bureau based in Jigjiga, Ethiopia.
PATH seeks to recruit a Regional Project Coordinator for Immunization who will work as part of a Technical Support Team, and will provide technical assistance to Somali Regional Immunization team, Constantly communicate and maintain relationships with the Regional Health Bureau, Zonal Health Departments and Woreda Health Offices as well as Social committee influential members, Lead the facilitation of advocacy workshop for the leaders in the project districts, including the regional social mobilization committees, oversee the implementation of the project at specific districts and supervise project staffs in the region under the direction of the Technical Support Team Program Manager. The Regional Project Coordinator will be based in Jigjiga. S/he should be fluent in Somali language.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
Provide support to the regional health bureau in planning, implementing and monitoring different SIAs/NIDs activities.
Provide support to the regional health bureau in planning, implementing and monitoring EPI routine activities.
Provide support to the regional health Bureau in strengthening coordination among all EPI stakeholders.
Provide comprehensive EPI technical assistance to the regional health bureau.
Work closely with the regional health Bureau and lower level structures in identifying critical gaps/challenges in selected districts (project areas).
Constantly communicate and maintain relationships with the Regional Health Bureau, Zonal Health Departments and Woreda Health Offices as well as Social
committee influential members.
Facilitate and participate in some of the activities conducted by social mobilization committees’ members in the field (market places, mosques, schools, wedding ceremonies, women forum, party forum).
Constantly communicate and maintain relationships with the Regional Health Bureau, Zonal Health Departments and Woreda Health Offices as well as Social committee influential members.
Lead the facilitation of advocacy workshop for the leaders in the project districts, including the regional social mobilization committees.
Ensure effective documentation. Document best practices and lessons drawn by the initiative in the implementation districts.
Lead the facilitation of orientation workshops to the social mobilization committee members and prepare reports.
Participate in production of IEC materials (poster and brochures) and facilitate their distribution to the project sites.
Oversee the implementation of agreed demand generation initiative activities in selected districts.
Coordinate overall demand generation support provided to specific districts in the region.
Work closely with project team and supervise district level project staffs.
Conduct quarterly review meetings with the project sites.
Lead baseline assessment visits to selected districts.
Provide regular monitoring to the project.
Job Requirements
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Officer or BSc nursing and having master’s in public health is an asset.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in public health programming, with particular experience in the area of immunization and maternal/child health programs.
Proven ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with government, partners, donors and international organizations at various levels.
Experience in facilitating meetings and moderating complex discussions with a variety of stakeholders (including religious and clan leaders) preferred.
Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities and work under minimal/remote supervision.
Skilled in successfully working with geographically dispersed teams and working in a multi-cultural environment.
Knowledge of the political, social, economic, and cultural context of Somali region
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.
Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to travel to districts, estimated to be about 60%.
