Job Description
PowerGen Renewable Energy is a micro-grid developer, implementer, and operator in East Africa, reshaping the prevailing rural electrification model in the region. PowerGen is creating an African energy system that utilizes clean, renewable energy and smarter grids to deliver power to all.
As the Senior People Operations Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting the company’s greatest asset: our people! You will serve as a partner to our teams across all aspects of People Operations (POPS).
You will be responsible for providing guidance on all POPS functions, procedures and processes and ensuring excellence across the teams within these divisions. You will report to the Vice President of People Operations and work closely across the divisions you support, as well as with other team members in the People Operations Division.
What You’ll Make Happen:
All of the teams at PowerGen require strong support from the People Operations Division in order to operate efficiently and successfully. This responsibilities of the Senior People Operations Associate include – but are not limited to:
Recruitment & Staffing
Drive recruitment process for Kenya and new markets
Identify, engage, evaluate and recruit candidates for our open positions
Creatively source candidates for difficult-to-fill positions
Work closely with the teams throughout the search process providing consistent communication both externally and internally
Manage contract review and renewal for all employment and service agreements
Ensure team needs are met in accordance with regulations and labour law
Business Partner & Team Support
Serve as a strategic partner to teams developing programs that support team objectives
Meet monthly with team leads to consult, share information and provide support
Act as an internal expert of POPs policies, procedure and infrastructure
Manage employee relations, working closely with managers, providing guidance and assistance with policy interpretation and escalating issues as needed
Consistently and accurately update POPS tech systems, and propose improvements as needed to bring greater efficiency
Support business strategies and develop action plans
Culture & Team Events
Champion our culture daily through Values, Themes, events and regular interaction
See that culture is pushed forward in new markets
Lead development and implementation of team events such as Huddle, All Hands, team building, happy hours and holiday party
Launch initiatives based on team feedback and business goals
Oversee Employee Handbook and policies for clarity, culture alignment and compliance
Talent Management
Own employment
changes in HRIS and documentation
Own the onboarding program for all of our new hires
Act as ambassador of career development needs and programs
Support in roll out of training initiatives and programs, as needed, across the organization
Support performance review cycles and process, including ongoing performance support and training interventions as needed
Infrastructure & Operations
Responsible for insurance policies, such as Medical Insurance, AMREF, etc.
Review and update content on the Intranet
Ensure compliance, regulatory, and legal responsibilities are followed
Oversee cleaner and ensure organization, cleanliness and upkeep of Karen Office
Support as needed in new market infrastructure and operations

You Already Have:
Bachelor’s Degree in human resources or related field, Master’s preferred
4 – 6 years’ demonstrated progressive experience in HR
Experience with recruitment process from administrative to executive at an organization
Conversant with Kenyan Labour Law
Certification in HR
Experience with HRIS, leave system or other HR technology system
Fluent in Swahili and English
